Exclamation Update: 53-Year-Old Doug Hutchison and 19-Year-Old Courtney Stodden Get Back Together

"Lost" Alum Weds 16-Year-Old, Says "True Love Can Be Ageless"
Jun 20, 2011
by Natalie Abrams

Doug Hutchison, well known as the former Dharma leader Horace Goodspeed on "Lost", got married in Vegas — to a 16-year-old!

The 51-year-old actor, who also appeared in The Green Mile and on "24", married aspiring country singer Courtney Alexis Stodden on May 20, according to E! Online.

Despite their age difference, the May-December couple insists they truly are in love.

"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the couple said in a statement. "But we're very much in love and want to get the message out that true love can be ageless."

Oh No

Not only is their large age difference controversial but what about the fact that she is still a minor? To me that's an even bigger controversy and it's the part of this story that I have the biggest problem with.

Yeah, I'm all for being in love no matter what the age difference but the fact that one of the partners is a minor is very disturbing to me. There's the whole issue of emotional maturity (yes, I know 16 year olds can be very emotionally mature but as a rule, they are not and should not be expected to be as mature as a 51 year old). The issue of exploitation of the girls' naivete comes up, too. Is someone, at age 16, even ready to think about being married to anyone, let alone a 51 year old?

I dunno. Kinda creepy, really.

This thread needs a puke smiley instead of a heart icon before the title.

I'm for being in love as long is the age difference is not 24 years or more, but I hope Doug Hutchinson's marriage fails, and until he divorces that 16-year-old tramp, Hutchinson is banned from entering my nightclub, the House of James. I should be furious at him for this.

Plus, that tramp was born after 1988 (seven years too late to have saw the beginning of Hutchinson's career), and she was born after the X-files premiered. and she was four years old when the Green Mile was released in hteatres. I hope the marriage is annulled.

I thought the marriage was sickening enough but her singing is even worse.

Apparently so, since this girl's mother signed the parental consent form to allow the marriage to happen.

The mother made a statement as well saying, "Courtney is one of the most level headed girls out there and I’m not just saying that because she’s my daughter. Doug is the nicest man I’ve ever met in my life."

Oh I assumed she thinks she's ready. What I meant was "does someone at age 16 really possess the type of judgement needed to go ahead with marrying a 51 year old man (or for that matter, anyone, regardless of age)?"

My guess is 99 times out of a hundred, the answer is "no". I hope I'm wrong, though. It's a done deal and no one wants to see anyone end up unhappy.

Yeah, I'd go with "no" for the most part too, but they seem to think this is o.k. ...

Just asking for the sake of asking, though she is of the age to get married (with parental consent) can she have intercourse with him yet?

I know that according to federal law in the U.S. you are considered a minor until the age of eighteen, so I was wondering on how this works...

^ No real idea but I'd guess if it's legal to be married then the court would assume that "relations" were part of the marriage.

It is an interesting question, though, and one I never really thought about.

I would imagine that when her mother signed the document permitting her daughter to get married that the same document gave the daughter permission to consummate said marriage. But then again I could be wrong.

Gosh, and I thought the (now-cancelled) potential marriage between 85-year-old Hugh Hefner and 25-year-old Crystal Harris was gross...

Actually, I still think that pairing was gross (they could be grandfather/granddaughter!!!), but at least she was of age!! Marriages with 10-, 15-, even 20-year age gaps have never bothered me (as long as both parties are in love and of age), but this is going too far!!!
