All I could say is wow! I know the dress was suppose to get a laugh out of the audience, but it was very sexy. Especially for Mary Richards standards! What is everybody's opinions on "the dress?" lol

The episode involved an ex-prostitute who Mary was trying to help leave "that life". Mary suggested the woman take up dress-making. She did - thus the concoction Mary is trying not to fall out of!!

The dubious dressmaker was played by Barbara Colby, whose two appearances on TMTMS led to her winning a role on the spinoff Phyllis. Sadly, after filming only a couple of episodes, Barbara Colby and a friend were murdered after leaving an acting class. The killers were never caught.

I just saw this episode the other day on Me-TV! Mary's roomate at the hospital (played by character actress Pat Carroll) mistook Mary for a go-go dancer because of that nightie!

I remember watching that green dress episode as a kid and feeling...suddenly different about Mary somehow!
