Hey guys,
40 years ago this week, a Vocal Soul Trio called The Honey Cone consisted of Edna Wright, Carolyn Willis and Shelly Clark scored their 1st #1 Hit on the Pop & Soul Chart with a song called "Want Ads" Want Ads became not the Honey Cone's 2nd Top 10 Soul Hit and their 4th Top 40 Soul Hit, but it also became the trio's 1st Top 40 Hit on the Pop Chart here in America The song was #1 on the Soul Chart for 3 non-consecutive weeks and it was also #1 on the Pop Chart for only a week and it was their only #1 Hit on the Pop Chart The Honey Cone would score their 2nd consecutive #1 Hit on the Soul with the song "Stick-Up" which was also their 2nd consecutive Top 20 Pop Hit which peaked @ #11 almost cracking the Top 10 on the Pop Chart The Honey Cone scored 7 Top 100 Hits on the Pop Chart and they scored 4 consecutive Top 40 Hits on the Pop Chart here in America and on the Soul Chart, they've scored 9 Top 40 Hits which includes 5 Top 10 Hits and 2 back to back #1 Hits Their other 2 Top 40 Pop Hits were "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show Part I" which peaked @ #15 on the Pop Chart and #5 on the Soul Chart and "The Day I Found Myself" which peaked @ #23 on the Pop Chart and #8 on the Soul Chart Their 1st Top 40 Hit on the Soul Chart was called "While You're Out Looking for Sugar?" which peaked @ #26 and their 1st Top 10 Hit on the Soul Chart was called "Girls It Ain't Easy" which peaked @ #8 Sadly, in 1973, the trio split before 1973 ended and the labels folded soon after under increasing debt. Wright went solo, releasing Oops! Here I Go Again (1976) on RCA, and Willis appeared as a backing vocalist on Seals and Crofts hit "Get Closer." In more recent years, Wright has performed across the US with Latari Martin and Melodye Perry, billed as 'Edna Wright and The Honey Cone.' and now, here it is: The Honey Cone and their 1st #1 Soul Hit and their only #1 Pop Hit "Want Ads" Check it out: |

This is one of my most hated songs of the 70's and there were a lot of them.

Well I hate to disappoint ya, but personally, I thought this song was pretty good
I use to listen to this on VH1's 8-Track Flashback with David Cassidy when I was in High School @ least it's better than all of the crappy music we got on Radio and TV Today |

This song really doesn't ring a bell with me.
I mean, I think I have heard it before, but its not real familiar. Odd. |
