While Asner continues to work in television -including a lead role in the recently cancelled CMT sitcom Working Class -he admits he doesn't watch TV anymore. This is partially because of a pet peeve that dates back to when he was president of the Screen Actors Guild in the 1980s and he felt the credits at the end of TV shows ran too quickly.
"It's a tremendous insult to the performers of the show you've just seen," he says. "I watch it as rarely as possible." Read more: http://www.calgaryherald.com/enterta...#ixzz1PUrwo1jb |

I do agree with him about that. What they do is ridiculous. You have to get up close to the tv and be a speed reader to find out anything.

Exactly, or they compress them to the side so they could promo another show.

And that compressing to the credits to the side while they show an ad or start another show is an insult to the viewer - it's like they're dictating to you, "you know what? you're done with that show, now watch this" Do we really need it rammed down our throats like that? |

^ Mike, you said it all!! I too miss the end theme songs with the credit roll over shots of empty sets or freeze frames from that episode. Those were the days!!!

This is one of the reasons I prefer to watch TV shows on DVD. I can pause the credits and read all the names of the people involved in the episode and give them their due credit!

I agree with Ed. The guest stars, associate producers, grips and others all worked hard and don't deserve to be disrespected with squeezed closing credits.

I agree on this, each person who worked on a show - past or present - should have their name shown to acknowledge their work. However, it's not going to keep me from watching a TV show I like though I do miss the end credit music.

What I don't understand is why a good actor like Ed Asner and a few other top veteran actors like Ralph Waite etc. would even want to act in the mindless junk tv shows they make now. They surely don't need the money.Maybe they just want to keep active,I don't know. But why put a black mark on an otherwise great acting career.

Yeah I agree,I think it is because they want to work.If it was me I would want nothing to do with contemporary Hollywood.I actually feel sorry for good veteran actors that still want to work in television.-----During the 1950s-70s, if you were a top veteran actor or premiere character actor you could literally make guest appearances every week on so many great television shows and be proud of being in those shows.---That certainly is not the case nowadays, and has not been for quite sometime.
