In an article dated, May 12th, 1973, Bill Daily said his Hollywood career was set back about 15 years because he felt his comedy routine was too similar to the legendary Bob Newhart's. The two eventually became good friends, but I did find it very interesting...

Well I disagree. I think the show and IDOJ really MADE his career. Would he have been as famous or successful if not for these shows? I highly doubt it.

Actually, he's talking about his stand-up career and the fact that his routines were similar to Newhart's, but Bob was the one who always got booked. So he ended up an actor instead (as did Bob, ironically).

I read somewhere that Bill Daily had trouble remembering lines and many times ad libbed on I Dream of Jeanie and The Bob Newhart Show.
