Question GILLIGAN'S PERSONAL MAGNETISM

It seems as if many viewers (perhaps non-GI fans but also some of them) see this episode as one of the "crazy" ones. Do you feel agree? Do you feel that this episode detracts from or fits in with GI?

I always thought that Ginger looked very pretty in this episode but I don't like most of Maryann's outfits in this one.

In the scene where Maryann comes to give Gilligan a drink and he says, "Looking for me, Maryann?" someone once told me he sounds sinister. I found it a little unbelievable that she did not know how he slept in the hammock given that this was their third year on the island--it's not as if it was a big hotel with room doors. What do you think?

Why doesn't Maryann scream as Ginger does when the mummified Gilligan appears? I know she is shocked but she usually doesn't react silently like that.

Why is Maryann assisting the Professor with his electrode experiment and Ginger feeding Gilligan? Isn't it usually the reverse? Why would the Professor especially want Maryann to assist this time?

It took me a while to recognize that the girls were whistling the GI theme?
Do you think this was a good thing in the show or not?

I felt for Gilligan when he was afraid of being invisible!

What is it with the periodic references to Gilligan being unattractive? Here he says, "I know I'm not handsome or anything." Are the other men supposed to be gorgeous in comparison to him? I don't see the reason for this denigration. Of course there are the fat/skinny jokes about him and the Skipper but that's different and when the stereotypical muscleman is on the island--ok--yes, Gilligan represents the ordinary and here, skinny, guy. But beyond this, do you feel these comments are warranted or accurate?

I agree. It's not as though Gilligan is some hideous freak. One may describe the Professor as 'handsome' in the classic sense, but Gilligan is handsome in the unconventional sense. He has lovely eyes and a gorgeous smile. No-one can argue with that. I dislike any instance where Gilligan is purposely set apart from the others, either by reference to his looks, his lack of ability or his social awkwardness. As if the others are perfect!!

Back to the episode though. One of my favourite scenes here is Ginger feeding Gilligan. Can he not feed himself with his left hand?? No matter- it's worth it for the look on his face and Ginger saying "All gone!"

"Looking for me, Mary Ann?" I suppose it would have a slightly sinister undertone if it was anyone but Gilligan. Maybe he was trying to be suave. Or enigmatic. (Fail- especially with a bowling ball stuck to his hand.)

It is a silly episode but I love the silly episodes. Who else would get a bowling ball stuck to his hand and then become invisible after being struck by lightning? Only Gilligan.

This one's ok.

I think it's hilarious that they're whistling the theme song! I love "self-reflexive" jokes like that. Like on Green Acres when the credits show up on the eggs/laundry/etc and Lisa insists that she keeps seeing "the names" and Oliver has no idea what she's talking about. Genius!

The "Looking for me, Mary Ann?" sounds like he's trying to be suave but ends up sounding creepy, haha. I think it's fascinating that he waits so long to say anything to her. It's like he's sitting there watching her when she can't see him, which I find incredibly unnerving. (Omg, someone write a fic!)

Anyway. Ahem. Either he waits so long to speak up because:
1) He thinks it's kinda funny that she goes through all that hammock business to find him and he's sitting there trying not to laugh.
2) He's really upset that he's invisible and she can't see him and he's sitting there being sad.

OMG, I forgot he's invisible when he says "Looking for me, Mary Ann?"
That does make it creepy, but in a kind of thrilling way. As you point out, incredibly unnerving, but at the same time...

There is a fic in there somewhere. A highly inappropriate one.

Seriously though, because it's Gilligan, he probably is just sitting there sad because no-one can see him, and once again he's the victim of some wild mishap that wouldn't happen to anyone else. Awwww.

I totally just wrote that fic. o.O

It's not inappropriate, though. Sorry, Teebs.

I totally just read that fic. And don't worry, I added the inappropriateness in my imagination.
