Satan Cult Killing at Menantico 1971

I am a new member to this site and would appreciate comments, opinions, etc regarding the story I am about to tell. In June of 1971 a young man age 21 asked his 2 teenage friends to folllow him to a deserted pond in the hills where he instructed them to bound his hands and feet. After giving a brief service to the Devil he then asked them to push him into what was known then as "Clear Pond". They surfboarded him into the face down position and he drowned and they walked away. The 2 teenage boys then headed over to the Vineland High School for a yearbook signing and later headed for Florida. Upon their return to Vineland, N.J. they were arrested and convicted for the crime and sentenced to about 5 years each in Yardville prison. The next day the newspapers were hitting the pavement. This young man had convinced his 2 teenage friends to tie him up and push him into a lake so he could drown and be reborn a captain to rule over 40 legions of demons.

The difficulty in the victim's case is that his sacrifice is directly tied into Christian/Satanism in his belief that his self sacrifice would engender the protection/aid of Christian demons. His reference of "40 legions" is a Judeo-Christian concept to be found in Colin De Plancey + others (derived from medieval theologians) in which demons had hierarchies + legions, etc.Police cheif Charles Pangburn conducted a wide spread investigation into the young man's death. One of the teenage boys claimed that the victim belonged to a Satan worshippers sect and said he had to die violently so he could be put in charge of "40 leagues of demons"....which was telling regarding the term leagues instead of legions. He went on to say that he was NOT a member himself but was merely introduced to the victim's ideas on witchcraft. Charles Pangburn confiscated literature dealing with the victim's Satan cult but refused to divulge it's contents.

Through the publications industry it was revealed that 50 members of a Satan cult met at Menantico and Charles Pangburn had an idea that they all wrapped chains (so to speak), around the victim and dumped him overboard. I was 15 years old and in junior high at the time of the tragic event. Police came into the classrooms and handcuffed kids in our school. Further investigation into the murder revealed the discovery of a list of names belonging to an elderly and wealthy sect which was posed under a different organization in Vineland N.J. Police harassed Lilith Sinclair and members of her group in the summer of 1971 after the victim's death. She was a prominet leader on the east coast and had revolted against Anton Levay and the "Church of Satan". Her group was supposedly a kind of pre-"Temple of Set" and exsisted on the east coast prior to her bond and forming of the official "Temple of Set" in 1972 with Michael Aquinio. They revolted against the "Church of Satan" because it had nothing to do with your spirit, Judeo-Christian concepts or demons. There was NO physical evidence to be found on the victim's clothes. His clothes were in neat condition from his shirt right down to his sneakers. So in the end...only the 2 boys were sentenced for the murder. Residents in Vineland believed it was just 3 boys on a dark mission that included indulging in LSD, but for years police believed otherwise.

In 1971 kids were not applying media driven concepts to Satan worship like they did all through the "Satanic Panic" of the 80's. There were no "Lost Boys" movies or "Lost Boys" cults. There was no such term as "Heavy Metal". Many kids who were physically abused at home or had indulged into drugs were being brainwashed by Lilith Sinclair's sect according to the investigators. What was then known as "Jesus Freak" in houses were opended to the public and a vast amount of born again Christians roamed the streets looking for kids who were lost, high on drugs and worshipped Satan. The 50 members which met at Menantico sandwash on the borderline of Vineland and Millville were merely an extension of the elderly sect which would NEVER show to such places of worship. The victim according to investigation belonged to the elderly sect and had formed a 50 member group of his own which included hippies, bikers and misfits. Eventually the elderly and wealthy sect fled and most people who live in Vineland have no memory of the real truth or supposedly what was the truth. What do you think?

Hi Enidi How tragic for the poor deluded teen who died. I had to respond to you as I too remember the early 70's as a resurgence in the occult, and also at the same time in "Jesus Freaks" now called evangelical Christians looking for the vulnerable to save. While those who belonged to Luciferian Satanic occults were also looking for the vulnerable-to destroy. I personally had a best friend I lost to a house of the occult in 1971 also. We were Best friends until then. Suddenly she became withdrawn and defensive of these people to the degree she broke all ties with her old friends including me. I never saw her again. Fast forward to the 80's and the occult again experiences a resurgence-this time with a more ominous mandate-to eradicate Christianity by 1999. Yep you read that right. Eradicate Christianity by 1999. We can look back now and see this mandate failed. In the 80's however we were knee deep in past members-victims-of occult/Satanic ritualistic abuses and brainwashing. Many people of varied ages were becoming suicidal trying to fight the calls/triggers to bring them back into the fold. I was a professional in the child advocate field at this time. I worked with victims and survivors of abuse. This included ritualistic abuse under which satanic practices fall. Gail Woodsum was a public speaker at the time raising awareness that this was very real and not the product of overblown, overwrought imaginations. I as a hotline Volunteer aided many survivors of satanic cults over midnight hours struggling both them and I, to keep them alive. The sheer numbers of these hapless persons was daunting to helpers on the front lines. Gail Woodsum spoke to as many audiences as long as she could but did have to regretfully quit the lecture circuit over increasing death threats to her and her family from members of these cults. To any who would dismiss such as meaningless games to an unfortunate unstable few, underestimate the power brokers behind these small town gatherings. Pawns are not informed what their Rulers are up to.
Fast Forward again to the 21st Century: in New Mexico, A man claiming to BE Jesus Christ has young followers all getting "666" tattooed on their wrists or yes even foreheads, claiming the number "666" is symbolically good and not evil as Churchgoers are taught- Mainstream media has noticed this latest resurgence so much so 60 minutes covered this extensively. Sobering realities. Always know whom your children and even you are truly associating with. Evil as in sociopaths are charmingly deceptive, especially to the lonely, the vulnerable among us. Think of the charismatic Leaders of groups who commit mass suicide. These people believed them at the cost of their lives.

Interesting history here. I found the information on Gail Woodsum a good read. Some people in the past have confused this case with something else. It has been labeled as an urban legend. It is laughable to some who catagorize it with the "Satanic Panic" era of the 80's. I remember that time well when kids were influenced by "Heavy Metal" music and the "Lost Boys" movie. I was 15 when the victim died a tragic death. These media driven concepts were not present during our youth. On another note.....wealthy sects have moved into towns and posed as something completely different for centuries. This is a historical pattern. So just because the press had a field day during the "Satanic Panic" 80's doesn't mean that your history is wrong. Anyone who feels that Satan cults are only made up of teenagers on a mission has a position which is moronic.

Wealthy Satan worshipper sects do not worship in the woods my friends. They drive expensive cars and dress in expensive clothes and have important positions in the community. I put emphasis on this point because a majority of parents who are concerned over their children are feverishly looking for a goth image in young people and make attempts for their kids to avoid them. Yes! It makes sense to do this and I agree, however unfortunately many of the teens who are brainwashed by an elderly sect are sent out as watchers to abduct young children and they are brought back to the sect to be sacrificed in a ritual. There are sooooooooo many missing children and from my personal experience of growing up in a town where ritual killings were vast....as a parent I would keep my eye on all parties. Most kids who are convicted for ritualistic killings would never turn in the elderly sect. If they did...they would never make it on the outside. It's one of the many reasons behind their suicide attempts in prison. A true fact to take into consideration here is that a wealthy Satan worshippers sect has a family tree which dates back centuries ago. Many of their family members migrated to America long ago and their traditions have been practiced and passed down through many generations. Regarding the subject of missing children? It is more keen to be aware of that particular realization than to focus only on teenage goth and media driven concepts.
