Default How come shows air on multiple channels?

How come shows like Gunsmoke air on multiple channels? They air on TV Land, Me-TV, Encore West etc. Look at That 70s Show. Its on Nick at Nite, ABC Family, Syndication etc. Fresh Prince is on Syndication and on TBS. Married With Children is on Antenna TV, CMT (Sometimes), TBS.

How come shows are on multiple channels yet there are some shows that are not even on one channel?

I don't see anything wrong with shows airing on broadcast syndication/locally (be it a local channel, Me-TV, Antenna TV, whatever) and cable....a lot of people don't have cable, so that is the only way they can see them. If they air on cable, they can air more often, or at better times (such as primetime, when FOX, CW, etc affiliates that air a lot of syndicated material can't).

I don't get shows airing on more than one cable channel, though. Airing on a local channel and a cable channel is fine, but when you have a show on 2-3 cable channels, that's just too much.

The airing of shows on multiple channels was one of the factors that made me question WHY was I paying for all of these channels. It got to the point where it seemed like every channel was showing the same thing. Then I decided enough was enough, and in January of 2007 I discontinued my Subscription. Haven't missed a thing since then!

Now cable stations are even airing the same show at the same time.viacom is doing that with THE NANNY on 2 of its stations.Really surprised more don't cancel cable.
