Likewise for Gary Coleman, he did an episode of Medical Center 4 years before Good Times and episodes of The Jeffersons and America 2 Night in 1978 also prior to Good Times.

In terms of Shirley Hemphill, there is a connection, however, What's Happening started in Aug 1976, she did not appear on Good Times until Dec 1976. What's Happening was well into production. Her appearance on Good Times only helped to give her more exposure.

And Shirley had already been casted for What's Happening in 1976 when the first four initial episodes were shot. She had to have done Good Times a bit later.
