Crazy Irony: Dairy princess is lactose intolerant

http://www.pantagraph.com/news/weird...cc4c002e0.html

ELMA, Wash. -- Laurel Gordon of Washington state has been putting on a tiara to promote milk products the past two years as Grays Harbor County's dairy ambassador.

The funny thing is, the 18-year-old from Elma is a lactose intolerant dairy princess.

The Daily World of Aberdeen reports that unless Gordon takes special pills, her body is unable to digest milk, so she drinks soy milk.

But her family operates a dairy farm that has been in the family for 150 years, and she believes in the product.

She's competing for the Washington state dairy ambassador title in June.

Cool

I suppose the next thing we'll hear is that Ronald McDonald is a vegetarian!!

Oh No

I KNOW that it is a serious problem and I AM NOT joking about lactose intolerance itself. I am only saying that it is ironic that the girl named dairy princess is lactose intolerant. Do you ever lighten up? Geez...

Nobody was joking about being lactose intolerant, the joke was about Ronald McDonald being a vegeterian which I thought was hilarious.

You really need to quit taking things so seriously.

Monika, you and Charles are right. I do need to lighten up a little bit and not
take things so seriously. I guess it is because I am a Christian that I tend to
take everything so seriously, because our commission to save lost souls is
a serious one. But I do need to relax when I am not at worship services.

I know it is a little different but it's like when they have some celebrity advertise a product, and then later on they say they don't use it. I remember this commercial which aired in the late 1970s/early 80s with some lady named Rula Lenska. In the ad it said she was an internationally known movie star, which she was not.Hardly anyone even heard of her. She advertised some type of shampoo. Anyhow it became a big story for some reason, and she was asked if she even used the shampoo. Her exact words were "of course not it's pure rubbish".

There is certainly an irony in this. Wonder how much dairy she can handle when she takes the pills. I live on low carb dairy (Greek yogurt, fat free ricotta, etc.) I don't know what I'd do if I had to give up dairy (on top of a lot of other stuff I've had to shelve already)

it varies from person to person, but the pills only have a limited effect and have to be timed with the milk ingestion to reduce the effects overall.

lactose intolerance can range from a mild inconvenience to real discomfort and actual pain, it can be quite serious in some cases.

My youth group leader in high school was lactose intolerant. Whenever the youth group would go out to eat, he'd always have to take a couple of pills before eating/drinking any dairy products.
