Since I could never get into 'Hogan's Heroes' because I thought it was a little boring, I relate to Dawson more as the host of 'Family Feud' and 'Match Game' panelist.

I was never really very into HH, so he'll always be the funny (though too 'smoochy') host of Family Feud to me.

I liked him on Hogan's Heroes and on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.
I especially loved his impressions (Groucho Marx, Humphrey Bogart, etc.). I
was never really into game shows very much.

To me, I will always see Richard first and foremost as the host of Family Feud!! Was never really able to get into HH.

Cool

I actually see him equally as both. I loved his dry wit as Newkirk on HH but I also love his warmth and sense of humor as a game show host.

I loved Hogan's Heroes but he was only a supporting character in it. He was the star of The Family Feud and with the exception of Ray Combs, all the replacement hosts have sucked.

Sorry, Hogan's Heroes in my opinion was a STUPID show, even as a kid. I did like the Germans a bit, but Werner Klemperer (Klink) and John Banner (Schultz) were well acted and hilarious.

As some people have said, Hogan Heroes was before their time and remember him more on Family Fued and Match Game. But I also divide the young Richard and the old Richard who aged and got fat of a man's diet of scotch and red meat. But it is the job that the Family Fued guy before Family Fued.

From the film Auto Focus, Richard Dawson was shown to be somewhat of a jerk and a "ladies man". The dude was lecherous in Family Fued, kissing all the women on the panels. My mother has said that if we were on that show, she would request Richard not to molest her. His breath of London Broil, unfiltered camels, and Johnny Walker Black would be a toxic brew for sure!

I see him as both. That said I would prefer to watch HH's. Not much into game shows.

He'll be known to me as Newkirk first, then as a panalist on Match Game, then Game Show host.

I agree. I think of Family Feud, (and The Match Game, as well) before Hogan's Heroes. I DID like him on HH, however.
