Did you ever sit down to tape a show off tv that you wanted to keep
and they start flashing a weather advisory at the bottom ? I remember trying to tape something once when they started doing that , but I noticed in the tv listings that they were repeating it the next night so I stopped taping , thinking I would get a better copy the next night. Well, there wasnt any weather advisory but they constantly ran winning lottery numbers at the bottom. I gave up trying to tape it and ended up trading for it. I dont remember stations back in the 60s and 70s putting messages over what they were airing, they always broke away from programming. |

Yes, I do hate that but living in the Midwest means that anything taped from about April through September usually has some kind of storm warning added on to it!

I have literally cussed out a few stations because of this.

Or even worse, You program your Recording Device to record a Show, unfortunately (and unknown to you) a Sporting Event that precedes that particular show runs long, and the Network either delays the program (resulting in your recording stopping BEFORE the Program concludes), OR the Network decides to "Join the Program In-Progress" cutting off the Beginning.

I taped a Barney Miller Episode recently and they had a "This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System" and an announcer started talking over a whole 2-3 minute scene.

I've noticed in recent years weather alerts etc. have gotten much louder, much longer and more frequent.Just a total disregard for the viewer, whether you're taping the show or not.A few seconds at normal volume is all that is needed(and how it used to be done).--As far as stations putting messages over what they are airing as mentioned in the original post, they did not even do that in the 1980s,I think it started in the 1990s,only it was alot less frequent than it is nowadays.Again total disregard for the viewers.

This kind of stuff is a real problem and I agree that it's worse now than in earlier years.
I never did get to see the end of the Indy 500 this year -- the local ABC affiliate wiped it out for storm coverage, and the storm did no damage whatsoever! They just can't stand the fact that they're the lowest rated group as far as local weather coverage, being new, and will do anything to improve their market share -- even though viewers continue to look to the older channels for weather. |

The one thing I can't stand is about 4 of the 5 stations here in St.Louis that do the weather crawls is they have a local roofer advertising on them. I think thats tacky that their putting advertising in something that is suppose to be service to the city.

Yeah, That roofer is getting a lot of advertising, Even if it is just a flooded road 100 miles away.
