Our topic today is Cafe Nervosa... Who do we have on line 2?
As a HUGE fan of Frasier, I would like to talk about Cafe Nervosa. I have recently noticed something about the show and would like to share that with you. I was watching the episode "I Hate Frasier Crane" (Season 1, episode #4) and realized that they located Cafe Nervosa for us. How can this be? Did they give the address? Does it really exist? I will post more on this in just a few moments, but let's go to the lines of the Internet and see what others have been talking about in the relation of our topic... |

If you were to type in "Cafe Nervosa" in your favorite search engine, it might
lead you to YAHOO! ANSWERS where Kitty posted: "Is there really a Cafe Nervosa in Seattle? Frasier and Niles spent so much time there. Is there really a place?" Best Answer (chosen by Asker) by Odin Green No It doesn't exist. It's actually the Seattle's best that is across from Pikes Public Market. Also the geography on Frasier is wrong. There is no way that Frasiers apartment is near the Space Needle. The space needle is on a hill at the Seattle Center in Queen Anne. Where Frasier lived is down town. Of course the radio station is not that far from the Space Needle. but it doesn't make sense that Frasier would drive around Seattle cause evrything is close by. It's basically Hollywood screwing up the town. Of course, the character of Daphne Moon is believable a lot of English people live in Seattle. If anyone has ever been to Seattle it kinda looks like London. Source(s): former Seattlite Skylar posted: Being a huge Frasier fan, I wondered that myself. But it doesn't. The show was actually filmed on a set in Hollywood, CA. Only the special 1000th episode (Frasier day) was filmed here is Seattle. Now that I live in Seattle, I think I will open a Cafe Nervosa ![]() (The above remarks were made 3 years ago) |

In reflecting Odin Green's answer, I would first like to comment on the location of the Space Needle and Frasier's apartment. With all due respect to Odin, I am a HUGE fan of the show, I have eaten at the top of the Space Needle and asked an employee there where Frasier's apartment would have been. The employee went to ask someone and came back with the reply that it would be the tallest building on Queen Anne Hill. Well, the tallest building on Queen Anne Hill was a wide, light colored building that was about ten stories tall.
In one episode, "The Impossible Dream" (Episode #75 Season 4), Elliot Bay Towers is shown for a brief moment. I am attaching that photo. And most of us know that Frasier lived on the 19th floor of a 20 story building. Though I don't understand Odin's comment on the Space Needle being on a hill in Queen Anne. Even someone who has never been to Seattle can find pictures of the Space Needle on the Internet and wonder what kind of hill is he talking about. The best view of the Space Needle is from Queen Anne and from the angle of Frasier's apartment view, that is where the photographer took that shot from, probably from Kerry Park off of W. Highland Dr. and 2nd Ave. W. So if you ask me if I were to build Elliot Bay Towers if I could, it would be right next to Kerry Park. So, there is no Elliot Bay Towers, but there is an Elliot Bay Book Store located near Pioneer Square. But I'm getting off topic here. Let's get back to Café Nervosa… |

Odin states, "No It doesn't exist. It's actually the Seattle's best that is across from Pikes Public Market." The bottom line is, of course it doesn't exist. It was a show set in Hollywood. But, if it was real, where would it be?
If you are looking for a location, in the episode "I Hate Frasier Crane" (Episode #4 season 1), Derek Mann calls Frasier out to a fist fight. Frasier finally agrees and asks Derek to name a time and place. He responds: "Kinsley Square, right outside your office by the old statue – noon tomorrow." What has this to do with Café Nervosa? When Frasier shows up for the fight, a crowd is gathering outside of Café Nervosa where Frasier steps out from to fight Derek Mann. Is there a Kinsley Square? I can't find it. There are a few squares like Pioneer Square, Union Square (check out http://www.unionsquareseattle.com/ ), etc. Odin may be right about the Seattle's Best being across from Pike's Market, but we know anyone wanting to visit Café Nervosa would be greatly disappointed in going to Seattle's Best. Producers of the show say that Café Nervosa has been designed after a café in LA, but if you really want to check out a place that may remind you of Café Nervosa and are visiting Seattle, I would highly suggest the Elliot Bay Book Store. They have a café down stairs that is said to be an inspiration for Café Nervosa as well. It is located at 101 South Main St. Seattle, WA. 98104. It even has an entrance/exit to the street from the café that is just like the outside stair case in Cheers. |

I found the following on Face Book:
Da Wikipedia, l'enciclopedia libera Café Nervosa is a fictional coffee shop featured in the American television sitcom Frasier. Location and role in the series It is fictitiously located on the corner of the real-world 3rd and Pike Streets in Seattle and is portrayed as being just across the street from the also fictional KACL Radio Studios. As such, many of the KACL staff go there during their free time, including Frasier Crane and his family. In the story the cafe has a number of regulars, including the Crane family and friends, and it is where Frasier and his brother Niles Crane meet to discuss various topics, often joined by their father Martin Crane. It is a prominent location in the series, and the episode "My Coffee with Niles" was set entirely within the cafe. The producers of Frasier decided that a non-work, non-home setting for Frasier should be a coffee shop, as Seattle is well known for them. They also made sure there were no stools (only chairs) in the cafe, to differentiate it from the Cheers bar back in Boston, where Frasier Crane had previously resided. The cafe's name, Nervosa, is a feminine Italian and Latin adjective, meaning "nervous", as well as a psychological term meaning "the debilitating psychological addiction to an object, belief or behavioral pattern". It can also refer to "coffee nerves"—a condition caused by drinking too much coffee. On a tenth season episode, the coffee shop was revealed to be named after its owner, Maureen Nervosa. This article is also posted here: http://maps.thefullwiki.org/Caf%C3%A9_Nervosa |

I am finding the location of Cafe Nervosa at 3rd and Pike on the Internet, but no sorces are given.
According to Google maps, at that intersection there is... Chipotie Mexican Grill, Walgreens, Qdoba Mexican Grill, and Golden State University. Does anyone know where the "3rd and Pike" address for Nervosa was derived from? Was this mentioned in an episode? Does anyone know which one?

OMG, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Cafe Nervosa and I SOOOO wish there were a real one in Seattle! There really IS a 3rd and Pike and in fact just the other day at work I booked a trip for a client to that very location. But they were going to the McDonald's that is there!
I am definitely getting a Cafe Nervosa shirt (either T-shirt or sweatshirt) and maybe some other stuff as well. Believe me, if there really WAS a Cafe Nervosa, I'd be there every day! That is the coolest place ever, IMO!!! Oh and do I even need to say that I have that picture of Niles and Frasier that's on the coffee cup on my cubicle? Actually I have a BUNCH of pictures of DHP, Niles and Daphne. Kind of a Niles Crane "shrine"! |
