Ada Constance Kent
I was looking at some of the disappearances on the UM wiki website, it was so strange and I tried looking up info but I could not find much. Here is some info on the case:
Ada Constance Kent was a wealthy spinster who lived alone in a cottage near Whalebone Corner, Kent. After she vanished in 1939, the local police searched her cottage for clues, but found no trace of her. Years later in April 1948, there was a mysterious deposit to her bank account and the police returned to the cottage to look for Ada again. They found her fully-clothed skeletal remains positioned at a table before a fresh plate of food. The British authorities are unaware of who returned her body to the house. Surprisingly, police later determined that the remains were not even Ada's, and to this day, Ada remains missing and the skeleton has never been identified. |

I think because she was old and a recluse, the police didn't too much energy into it. It seems like it was someone who knew her if he had info to deposit money into her account, and that the person who caused her disappearance was not motivated by taking money, since thieves usually don't deposit money they take it, the depositing money,a skeleton of another woman and leaving fresh food out makes me believe maybe it was a serial killer playing cat and mouse with the police.
I also have a theory that maybe she set it up herself, but with all the other clues that doesn't make too much sense. The nytimes.com has an article on her but, I couldn't read it because they make you pay for it. |

Okay I'm here in England myself (but nowhere near Kent) I'll try to google around a bit and see if I come up with anything.
One second of searching and found this: http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=1705,8183558 |

also found this:
http://www.forteantimes.com/forum/vi...c.php?p=882394 Ada Constance Kent This one is from Among the Missing: 1939- Ada Constance Kent of Whalebone Corner, Essex, England vanishes from her cottage. A wealthy spinster, it is assumed she was murdered for the cash she reputedly kept hidden in her home, but though her deserted cottage is searched many times, neither her body nor any sign of murder is found. Until 1949, when a constable again enters the home acting on information from a bank that checks have been cashed in Miss Kent's name, and reports of nighttime activity at the cottage by neighbors. Inside, he finds a bizarre scene: the fully clothed skeleton of Miss Kent seated at a table on which is laid a tray of fresh food. No explanation is ever found, and the mysterious check-casher is never caught. The only information I have found about this is a newspaper article that talks about finding the skeleton, but says it was NOT Ada Constance Kent: http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=1705,8183558 It also seems the "tray of fresh food" part is fiction, because the skeleton was not sitting at a table, but underneath rubble. It also does not mention checks. Very odd. Maybe you've already found this, though? |
