Did anybody else find it odd that Mary called Lou, Mr Grant all the time? Even though she was the only one to do so? Did she ever call him by his first name?

I can recall at least one occasion where she called him "Lou". But even then, it was not easy for her!

Mary did call him Lou a couple of times, once when he wanted to confide in her about his divorce, and I'm pretty sure she called him Lou during their date near the end of the series. And there's also the time she called him "Louis" b/c she was mad at him for ruining one of her parties, LOL.

There's a funny scene in Rhoda in the episode "Along Comes Mary".
Joe presses Rhoda to tell Mary that they were going for the weekend before Mary turned up unexpectantly. Rhoda says Mary would be consummed with gulit, turn into a derelict saying "Oh Yeah",wearing sweaters with fuss balls and calling Lou,"Lou!". |

I do remember her trying to call "Mr. Grant" Lou a couple of times. But its a faint memory (I'd have to google to find specific ep(s) but I do remember her trying once or twise with the words sticking)
Yes, on the surface, I suppose it was a tiny bit unusual for her to call him Mr. Grant when everyone else called him Lou - but somehow with Mary it seemed natural - part of her good breeding and refinement. |

She tried it a couple of times but there were times when she referred to him as Lou when talking to other people. One was when she tried to find him a date for a banquet right after Lou and his wife split up. It ended up being a little old lady instead of her daughter-in-law. Mary told Murray or someone that "she is Lou's date."

I hate that she didn't call him Lou more often. She's this career woman who seems un modern by calling him Mr. Grant!
