Hey guys,
Janet Damita Jo Jackson (who turned 45 last week) began her career in the Entertainment when she was only 7 appearing on stage in Las Vegas Strip with her siblings in a routine show at the MGM Casino doing her imitation of the late Mae West She would then go on to become an actress appearing in Hit TV Shows like Good Times and Diff'rent Strokes both produced by Norman Lear/Tandem Productions and she also appeared in the NBA TV Series Fame But it was @ age 16 when the youngest of all of the Jacksons decided to become a singer Her self-titled debut album became her 1st Top 10 Album on the Soul Album Chart and she also scored her very 1st Top 10 Hit on the Soul Chart entitled "Young Love" and she went on 2 have 2 more Top 20 Hits on the Soul Chart such as "Come Give Your Love to Me" and "Say You Do" She also appeared on such TV Music Variety Shows such as Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Don Cornelius' Soul Train, Solid Gold and Casey Kasem's America's Top 10 In 1984, she released her 2nd Album entitled "Dream Street" which includes the title cut to the album and she released her 1st single from that album entitled "Don't Stand Another Chance" which was Janet's 2nd Top 10 Hit on the Soul Chart But it was in 1986 when Janet Jackson finally took control of her career @ the age of 19 with the help of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis when she released her 3rd Studio Album and her very 1st #1 Pop & Soul Album entitled Control During the Control Era, Janet Jackson released 6 Singles all in which were Big Hits on the Pop, Soul and Dance Chart here in America and Japan The Album would then go on to sell more than 14,000,000 Copies Worldwide and it would become her 1st Album to go Multi Platinum Janet released 6 singles such as "What Have You Done for Me Lately", "Nasty", "When I Think of You", the title cut to "Control", "Let's Wait Awhile" and "The Pleasure Principle" which was written and produced by Monte Moir of the band called The Time 6 songs from Control would have 6 Top 20 Pop Hits which includes 5 Top 5 Pop Hits and a #1 Pop Hit, 6 Top 5 Soul Hits including 5 #1 Soul Hits, 5 Top 5 Dance Hits including 3 #1 Dance Hits and 6 Top 10 Hits in Japan which includes 3 #1 Singles from that Country Her 4 Singles from Control have also went Gold Her Album Control helped Jackson win numerous awards: 6 Billboard Music Awards in 1986 for Top Black Artist, Top Black Singles Artist, Top Dance Club Play Artist, Top Dance Sales Artist, Top Pop Singles Artist and Top Pop Singles Artist, Female a Grammy Award in 1987 for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical an MTV Video Music Award in 1987 for Best Choreography ("Nasty") 3 Soul Train Music Awards for Best Music Video ("What Have You Done For Me Lately") and Album of the Year, Female (Control) in 1987 and Best Music Video ("Control") in 1988 4 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Single ("Nasty") and Favorite Female Video Artist, Soul/R&B in 1987 and 2 more in 1988 for Favorite Soul/R&B video and Favorite Pop/Rock Video both for "When I Think of You" In 1989, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Control @ #28 as Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of the 1980's Control was also picked as one of the "100 Essential Albums of the Twentieth Century" by Vibe Magazine and one of the "Vital Pop: 50 Essential Pop Albums" by Slant Magazine and was ranked #86 by "The Definitive 200: Top 200 Albums of All-Time" by the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and that's your look @ a moment from 25 years ago: 1986; The Year Janet Jackson Takes Control God Bless Miss Jackson ![]() and now, here are the Music Videos of Janet-Miss Jackson if you're Nasty "What Have You Done for Me Lately" Janet's 1st Top 5 Pop & Dance Hit, her 1st #1 Soul Hit and Her 1st Gold Single "Nasty" Janet's 2nd Top 5 Pop & Dance Hit, her 2nd #1 Soul Hit and Her 2nd Gold Single "When I Think of You" Janet's 1st #1 Pop & Dance Hit, her 3rd Top 5 Soul and Her 3rd Gold Single the title cut to "Control" Janet's 4th Top 5 Pop Hit, her 2nd #1 Dance Hit and her 3rd #1 Soul Hit Her 4th Gold Single "Let's Wait Awhile" Janet's 5th Top 5 Pop Hit and her 4th #1 Soul Hit "The Pleasure Principle" Janet's 6th Top 20 Pop Hit, her 3rd #1 Dance Hit and her 5th #1 Soul Hit and BTW, these songs were out when The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Murder She Wrote and The Golden Girls were The Top 5 Shows on Prime Time Television |
