Question David "Squiggy" Lander Really Wanted A 'Lenny & Squiggy' Spinoff...Would You?!?

David Lander, even while he hopes for a Lenny-and-Squiggy spinoff of the spinoff ("There's so much more to the characters that we could develop"), is also fuddled by stardom. When a fan came up to him not long ago and said, "Hi, David," he was stunned by someone knowing his real name. "Do...do I know you from school?" stammered Squiggy. "No," said the fan. "You're on TV."

A new Squiggy and Lenny spin off would be a little weird. Imagine two old men in leather jackets and greasy hair bursting through a door and shouting 'Helloooo!!!'

I would have absolutely watched a Lenny & Squiggy spinoff back in the day.

Hell, I'd have to check it out if they did one now.

Network executives want spinoffs because they see them as potential hits.

Actors/actresses want spinoffs because they want to be the star.

But it's the right combination of actors that make a show great and when you take someone out of the group, it can adversely affect the show.

And the actor may end up with a hit or may end up out of work, depending on how their spinoff does.

And Lenny & Squiggy were the best part of L&S.

I think there were actually talks of a spinoff, I think there may have even been a backdoor pilot that aired on L&S, but it never came to be.

Imagine if it HAD happened....season 8 of L&S would have just been Carmine, Frank and Rhonda at the end!

also, I know that spinoffs need to happen while the parent show is hot, but it often leaves a big gap in the parent show, I think they should wait til the parent show is over if they are spinning off main characters. Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley were OK, because they were never main characters on Happy Days. Rhoda and Phyllis, however, were main characters on Mary Tyler Moore, and they left a huge void on the show that no one could fill, and most of the seasons after they left MTM weren't near as good, IMO.

Had they spun off Lenny & Squiggy in 1978, Laverne & Shirley would have a big gap that no one could fill. Not as bad, because the girls were the central focus of the show, but there were many episodes that the boys played a big part in.

Yeah, that's pretty much what it ended up to be.
