Andy Richter to Host TBS Reboot of "Pyramid"
Link
Here we go again. As the networks unveil their programming for fall 2011/ winter 2012, a familiar game show has once again popped up. Pyramid is in development for TBS. This version will keep Andy Richter on as host (Richter hosted the pilot episode commissioned by CBS last summer). There will likely be a format change or two, though I wouldn't expect anything drastic. From the TBS press release: "... a modern-day take on the iconic game show that began as The $10,000 Pyramid. Contestants team with a celebrity partner to take turns guessing words or phrases in a category." It'll be interesting to see what their definition of "a modern-day take" will be. TBS isn't new to reviving classic game shows - back in 2008 they shot a pilot episode of Match Game, which never went anywhere. Let's hope that Sony and Embassy Row don't mess with Pyramid too much. Since the show is still in development, we don't have any details on when it will air. We'll keep you updated! |

This could be good, but I'd like to see TBS take a risk and pair it with another game show to air in the early afternoon. When they announced the acquisition of CONAN, they said they'd wanna start programming more in prime time to appeal to those who tend to stay with their basic channel shows in prime time. It'd be nice to see TBS start taking steps towards an evolution, without Tyler Perry's name in front of the production.

...but how could Andy Richter- the man who flopped in three different sitcoms- possibly be accepted by viewers as a game show emcee? Especially trying to follow Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, and Donny Osmond as host of yet another edition of the "PYRAMID"?

I don't think flopping on three sitcoms disqualifies anyone from a chance at being a game show host. If they let John Davidson host Pyramid in the 90s - (and he was GOD awful in my opinion), Andy Richter deserves a shot.

Personally I think Andy should stick to being Conan's sidekick. That seems to be what he does best.
