Question about Olivia - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Now, again I watched the show in it's original run but forgot several details. I do remember Olivia having to be hospitalized later in life, but I can't remeber what the issue was. Was it a breakdown of some sort? Can anyone remind me of the details? Please and Thank you!

Olivia was diagnosed with TB (tuberculosis) and sent away to a hospital elsewhere in Virginia to convalesce. This was because Michael Learned had decided to leave the series. When Miss Learned returned to the series Olivia Walton recovered her health and returned to Walton's mountain. When Michael Learned exited the series for the second and final time poor Olivia had a relapse of TB and was sent to Arizona to convalesce in the dry desert air.

Thanks for clearing that up. For some reason I was thinking it was a mental breakdown. I must have been thinking of someone else.

John Boy had some mental issues after suffering a head wound when the plane he was in was shot down over Belgium while he was covering WWII for Stars and Stripes. He had a long and slow recovery and only recovered his memory a little at a time. Maybe that's what you're thinking of .

No, because I don't even recall that. I assume that was one of the last seasons and I bet I didn't see the last season or most of it. I haven't even seen alot of their movies. Maybe it wasn't even this show then because I know it was a female/mother figure....oh well. Thanks again for the info. I remember more of the early seasons then I do the later, but now that they are showing them, hopefully I will finally see them.
