Like may of the ninth season episodes, the outstanding drama outranks the comedy.
Edith is broken-hearted to learn that the Spiveks can't visit for Christmas, so she buys tickets to visit them. Then she learns that they are separated. Mike had dropped Gloria from his life and she then had an affair. The Bunkers struggle with their grief and anger at both of them, and then our gal Edith thinks her way to a solution. Archie's struggle with his outrage at his beloved daughter is a masterpiece of good script-writing. Jean Stapleton's acting hits new heights of skill. And the scene in which Archie gets a suddenly stubborn Stephanie to go with them is pretty good. |
