Seth MacFarlane To Reboot "The Flintstones"
"The Flintstones" Getting a Reboot by Seth MacFarlane
by Chris Harnick posted May 16th 2011 Yabba Dabba Wha? Seth MacFarlane has closed a deal to reboot "The Flintstones" via new TV and film projects. First reported by Deadline, MacFarlane and his legal team have cleared the necessary hurdles to get the project started. Fox confirmed the news at their 2011 Upfronts. MacFarlane is known for his Fox cartoon sitcoms "Family Guy", "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show", and that type of humor reportedly put some "Flintstones" shareholders on edge. The classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon aired from 1960-1966 on ABC. The series aired several spinoffs and animated specials throughout the years, with the most recent, "The Flintstones: On The Rocks" airing in 2001. It was reinterpreted for the big screen starring John Goodman and Rosie O'Donnell in 1994 with a prequel, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, hitting theaters in 2000. Fox said it will air in 2013. http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/05/16/th...th-macfarlane/ |

You know, I generally like McFarlane's shows, but this is just wrong, on many levels.

If I want to watch the Flintstones, I'll watch the original. No offense to fans of Seth MacFarland but I've never cared for his shows.

I like Seth MacFarlane's shows but I don't see why he has to redo The Flintstones. He already has his own shows/characters.
There will be a new generation who will think that "The Flintstones" is a Seth MacFarlane original and have no clue it originated in the 1960s from Hanna/Barbara. |

I may be in the minority on this one, but I would be willing to give it a shot. The Flintstones was always meant to be an adult show, I'd like to see a fresh approach to this classic show.

The original (and for my money, ONLY) Flintstones was indeed intended to be enjoyed by adults but I think they also obviously wrote it so that it was "kid friendly" and could be enjoyed and understood by kids. I think we all know what a McFarlane Flintstones will be like. Unless it's vastly different than any other show he's done, it's nothing I'd want my kid to watch. I don't think I want them to see jokes about Wilma's "time of the month" or Fred's sexual perversions, or Barney doing drugs or something. Again, all of this is fair game on McFarlane's other shows, which I usually get a kick out of. But there's something inherently "family" about the Flintstones and I'd just as soon that would remain inviolate. |

Now I like McFarlane's work on "Family Guy", "American Dad", and "The Cleveland Show" (I'm getting to like "The Cleveland Show" and "American Dad" more and "Family Guy" a little less)...but McFarlane retooling "The Flinstones"?!
Now I, myself would like to recreate Loopy de Loop (Another Hanna-Barbera Creation) for a show that I'm making called "Bertstown"...if it ever gets shown on Adult Swim. The difference with that, I hope is to have Loopy keep his identity such as being Considerate, Kind, and Charming. I'm also going to have a few Loopy episodes where he did get the origins of his kindness, veganism, his love toward Helen Warner (A character that I made), and his family traits (Something that's from Agarn's family in "F Troop"). Back on subject...I have a strange feeling that THIS "Flinsones" will be for adults and they may smoke like back in the 60's.... ...God Help Us! ![]() ![]()

He'll probably lace it with his far left ideology and left leaning politics destroying one of many things that made the Flintstones a classic to begin with was that it was a-political.

All the Hanna/Barbera heirs must be going broke to agree to this madness. For the record, I for one didn't mind the Fred And Barney Show they should have given Wilma and Betty a bigger part, which was my only gripe.
