I think it's interesting the changes they went through to get to the final pilot. It seems like the second pilot was a lot more sanitized that the first or final. No references to hard-partying, out of wedlock pregnancy, and all that. Maybe someone high up thought the first pilot was too free-wheeling?
Also, although they had figured out the characters of Jack and Janet, they hadn't decided what to do with Chrissy. Chrissy in the second pilot was a hot blond, a little innocent maybe, but not dumb or ditzy. I think she was better-looking than Suzanne Sommers, but she didn't have her energy or charisma. |

It would be interesting to see the British version, which was called Man About The House. There also was a British version of The Ropers, called George & Mildred. I assume it was a spin-off of MATH.

Well, yes and no. There's ditzy and then their's dumb. I thought Suzanne Somers' Chrissy was naive and ditzy in the first 3 seasons. In the 4th season the writers made her irritatingly dumb, imo. Either way, she was still different from Susan Lanier's Chrissy, who came across as fairly intelligent and normal, with just a bit of innocence and sweetness to contrast with sassy, down-to-earth Janet. I liked early Somers the best, even compared to Cindy and Terri, but I would have taken Lanier's Chrissy over 4th-season Chrissy. I swear I wanted to reach through my TV and slap her.

There was also another spinoff called Robin's Nest, that "Three's a Crowd" was based on. Here's the ending of MATH. The brunette gets married (just like in TC) except that she marries Robin's golden-child brother (the equivalent of Lee Tripper), rather than some random guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPEVx...=57&playnext=3 |
