Madderest Tom Hanks Admits That He Played A Sappy Wimp In Some Movies And Was Sick Of It

Speaking to W Magazine, both Hanks and Roberts remember back to their film transitions, when quirky love stories made way for films such as "Philadelphia," "Forrest Gump" and "Erin Brockovich." In Hanks' case, he made certain, in no uncertain terms, that he'd be getting those types of roles.

"I told my agents that I wasn't going to play ******* anymore," Hanks told the magazine. "I was tired of playing, 'Oh, boo-hoo--I was in love, but oh, boo-hoo-hoo.' There comes an age when you can't do that anymore. I wanted to play men instead of boys. In your mid-30s, it's time to start playing guys of compromise. And as you get older, men of bitter compromise."

I liked all of Tom Hanks' early movies. It's too bad that he thinks so little of them.

Tom Hanks didn't play a ***** in the movies "Splash", "Big", and "The Money Pit"!

At least he had some humor bu making a cameo on SNL when Will Ferrel was the host.

And Tom Hanks is stuck in a Dry-Cleaning Bag....

Did not like it. That was the last time I saw it.
I wonder what I would think of it now.

I prefer the older Hanks movies, I love The Burbs and Bachelor Party.

I find it hard to believe that he would just insult his roles like that, but I loved him in You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle". Loved Splash as well. It's too bad he doesn't do romantic comedies anymore. I used to see pretty much everything he was in, but lately I haven't been interested. The last movie I saw him in was "The Great Buck Howard" which starred his son Collin. I saw it at the SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival) a couple of years ago and Tom is only in two scenes, but the director told us that Tom wanted to be in the movie so that he could work with his son. I thought that was really nice.
