Thumbs down 'Dukes of Hazzard' star Tom Wopat Is Not A Fan Of The Movie Remake

'Dukes of Hazzard' star Tom Wopat is back doing what he loves best, performing live on Broadway in the hit musical, 'Catch Me If You Can,' and admits he doesn't regret never seeing Jessica Simpson put on those Daisy Dukes in the big screen remake.

"I did not" see it, Tom confesses. "It would be like watching someone go on a date with your ex-wife. The film made a lot of noise but wasn't that big. Otherwise you'd have 2 and 3 out already."

Great to see Tom back out performing again. But how can he not be a fan of the movie if he didn't see it? (Just a philasophical question...)

Well I never saw the movie and I'm not a fan of it!! I could tell from the commercials and the trailers that this wasn't a movie I wanted to see and that I didn't like the way they treated the characters or the story. Plus I read what Ben Jones (Cooter) had to say about the movie when it came out. He wasn't impressed with it at all and I respect his opinion since he was part of the original show. And I respect Tom Wopat's opinion for the same reason even if he hasn't seen the movie!

John Schneider hated the movie, too, from what I read.

I wonder how Catherine Bach, James Best, Sonny Schroyer, and Rick Hurst feel about the movie? I'm guessing they probably didn't like it either.

I think it's pretty admirable of them NOT to watch it, to be honest! I mean, I wouldn't want to see a show that I made hugely popular (and gained fame because of it) destroyed on the big screen either!

You're probably right, Marvo301, and not only that, but in addition, Sorrell Booke and Denver Pyle were probably rolling around in their graves.

this isn't really news - try to find someone that actually LIKED the movie, THAT would be news.

I don't blame Tom for not seeing it. I saw it and thought it was a waste of money. Had to agree with John and Ben on this one. Catherine Bach said that she gave some advice to Jessica Simpson about Daisy's character.

I remember there being a quote from James Best regarding the movie, not too long after it came out. I think maybe it was in TV Guide. He said that the movie didn't have anything in common with the series and that they should have called it "Jackass 2" instead.

Well everybody's entitled to there opinion. I haven't seen the movie either and I don't want to, because yeah well I think it looks dumb.

Having said that, I've always gotten the impression that Tom Wopat never liked the TV show so much either. Maybe it's just me but I've always thought from watching him in interviews he seems like he felt the Dukes TV show was "beneath" him and he also seemed to think he was "above" everybody else, in other words I think he comes off kind of arrogant. But like I said maybe it's just me but he's the only actor from The Dukes Of Hazzard I've never really cared for.

He's originally from the Madison Wisconsin area. One of my brothers and his wife lived in that area for a few years. Tom Wopat's family was still living in the area as well, and my brother and sister-in-law were living in the area when Wopat's father died. Tom Wopat of course came home for his dad's funeral and I remember my sister-in-law telling me once that he got some criticism from the local media for how he was dressed for the funeral. Which is kind of dumb, because I will say that even if it wasn't something I'd wear myself to a funeral I'd never even think about telling someone else how to dress for one (Well almost never LOL).

Ed.
