Exclamation **Update** Ashton Kutcher is Joining 'Two & A Half Men' Reboot

OK, so if not Hugh Grant, how about Ashton Kutcher?

Kutcher is the latest star to come up as a possible Charlie Sheen replacement on "Two and a Half Men." Broadcasting & Cable reports that he's "under consideration" to join the CBS sitcom for its ninth season.

On Wednesday it was reported that Grant came very close to signing a deal to replace Sheen before backing out. Kutcher is a markedly different actor than Grant, but they both presumably have enough star power to bring viewers back to the show next season (at least initially).

Finding someone to replace Sheen is a big-money issue for both CBS, which wants to keep its highest-rated comedy going, and producer Warner Bros., which stands to make (or lose) piles of money in syndication if the show continues on strong footing. The way the show's syndication deal is structured gives stations the right not to buy any episodes of "Two and a Half Men" that don't feature Sheen. If stations do opt out, it would shorten the current contract's term (which is set to expire in 2021) by one year.

But if Kutcher, Grant or whoever CBS and Warner Bros. hire for the show were to help keep its ratings strong, stations would presumably want to keep airing it, Sheen or no Sheen.

Kutcher has produced several TV shows in recent years, but he hasn't really done much on-camera work since "That '70s Show" ended in 2006. His last TV acting gig was a guest spot on ABC's short-lived comedy "Miss Guided" (on which he was an exec producer) in 2008.

Ashton Kutcher appears to have won the Two and a Half Men sweepstakes.

Two sources close to the deal-making tell The Hollywood Reporter that the actor is putting the final touches on a deal to replace Charlie Sheen as the star of TV’s No. 1 comedy. CBS, studio Warner Bros. and Kutcher’s reps at CAA declined to comment on the situation but a deal is said to be all but signed. The exact dollar figure he will be paid is not known but a source says Kutcher is getting a “huge payday” to join the hit sitcom.

The deal came together quickly in the wake of Hugh Grant passing on the opportunity to join the show. Now sources say Men creator Chuck Lorre has crafted a storyline to introduce Kutcher in a way that satisfies the network and studio. “It’s really funny,” says one source. “People are going to love it.”

Broadcasting & Cable reported Thursday that Kutcher’s name was surfacing as a possible Sheen replacement. The actor, who starred in the winter hit No Strings Attached, would be taking first regular series gig since catapulting to stardom on Fox’s That 70’s Show. He also executive produced the hit MTV hidden-camera series Punk’d, among others.

Kutcher brings a youthful fan base to the CBS show, as well as a big online profile with 6.7 million Twitter followers, which could help CBS promote the show.

"Chuck's really happy," another source says.

For his part, Kutcher is remaining silent except for a cryptic message he wrote on Twitter: “I'm starting to become convinced that people put my name in articles just to improve their SEO or hoping I'll tweet it.”

Sheen was fired from Men in early March, after a weeks-long media circus that had the actor attacking everything from Alcoholics Anonymous to Lorre.

He then launched a Web series, Sheen's Korner, in which he continued his rant against his former bosses, and embarked on a nationwide tour, My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option, which kicked off in early April with a disastrous show in Detroit. The monthlong tour proved to be hit or miss, with some crowds booing the star and walking out mid-show, while others gave him standing ovations.

At some tour stops, he expressed his desire to return to Men, even saying he would apologize to get his old job back.

The tour ended earlier this month in Seattle, but Sheen recently announced that he was going to continue the tour in Australia and Europe.

If this comes to pass, Two And A Half Men will be rendered unwatchable by me.

Well Ashton was good on That 70's Show which was an ensemble show. So if they treat the Two and a Half Men reboot like an ensemble show (which I'm guessing they will) Ashton will be fine.

Exclamation Ashton Kutcher’s ‘Two and a Half Men’ Payday: $1 Million per Episode

Ashton Kutcher would be paid around $1 million per episode of CBS hit show Two and a Half Men, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people briefed on the deal.

It said it was is unclear whether that figure includes any share in the back-end profits from reruns of the series.

The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday broke the news that Kutcher, CBS and production firm Warner Bros. were putting the finishing touches on the deal to bring the actor on as the new star of the show, replacing Charlie Sheen.

Sheen was the highest paid actor in television with a salary of $2 million per episode when including his portion of rerun money.

CBS and Warner Bros. previously agreed to split the cost for a new star.

CBS, Warner Bros. and Kutcher’s reps at CAA have so far not commented.
