Who do you prefer?
I prefer Woody myself, as much as I liked Coach and his close bonds with Sam and Diane, Woody's just that bit funnier. One of my favourite moments from Cheers so far (I've only seen everything to the end of Season 5) is when Frasier and Woody were playing chess, Woody won, then Frasier gets so mad he chucks the board across the bar and storms out My favourite Coach moment is the entire Season 3 episode Teacher's Pet, particularly as I originally viewed it in the run-up to my final high school exams. |

Coach Ernie Pantusso! What he lacked in brains he more than made up for with heart and loyalty!

I loved Coach. I remember watching it on Nick-at-Nite years ago and just laughing so hard at Coach!

Ernie was very funny and naďve, and loving male figure. After Ernie died, Woody brought the zest and energy that Ernie didn't have. So, Woody is mine.

Coach had the warmth that made up the heart of the show.

I prefer Coach. But it would have been nice to have both as regulars at the same time.

Somehow I feel the Coach may have been a better fit into the character scheme of the show simply because he was a true Bostonian whereas Woody was in fact imported from rural Hanover Indiana.Had late actor Nicholas Colassanto not unexpectedly passed away in the spring of '85 and continued his role all throughout the series,I think his rather dimwitted alter-ego would have provided significantly more yuks along the way not to mention he was a bit more loveable.

I prefer coach! He was always so funny and had such a big heart. I loved that. His moments of stupidity were always so funny and he had some really nice, touching moments too.
