Be Honest, Now That Steve Carell is Gone, Is Anyone Going to Watch 'The Office?' - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What happens if you combine going without Sheen in a reboot of his comedy and giving an expensive redo to Couric? You still come up way short of the egregious mistake that is The Office going on without Carell. Come on. Stop milking this thing. The sitcom has had a creatively rocky past two seasons and has mined pretty much all it can from the original premise of awkward moments in the workplace. Any more is just strip-mining, and that’s just bad for the environment (and your credibility). Knowing when to let go is hard. Mean people might imply that you should have let go two seasons ago. (Hi. Good to see you again.) Nicer people will say this season was completely unnecessary. There’s a very good chance that everyone will shake their heads in disapproval for next season’s comeback.

Could a revamp shake things up, creatively? Maybe, if it was done right. A celebrity replacement isn’t the answer. Retooling the concept entirely might be more effective. But there’s no reason to be the final season of Scrubs. Nobody needs to be that. Come on. The money’s been mined. Syndication is in place. Opt for dignity. Think about the legacy.

I plan to watch till the end. So far the first non-Carell episode was very enjoyable. I have confidence that the show will continue to be good. That doesn't mean I think it will last a long time without Carell but to me anyways, the quality will still be there.

i thought it was a pretty good ep too better than i thought it would be

This is an ensamble series, and actually Michael Scott was one of my least favorite characters in the show. There are plenty of other "oddballs" on the show to make it work.

I wish Will Farrell would stay because he is the perfect replacement character, and frankly, I think he is better than this than in his movies.

next season. I believe the ratings will fall and the show will be canceled at the end of 2012 TV season.

I found his character too painful to watch on the show and I never could get into the show because of that, so I might just start watching it now that he's gone.

A lot of people will still watch it but I wont. Switching the main cast is never a good idea. Look how much CSI ratings dropped once Grissam left. or House ratings when the main team got subbed out.

LOVED the show. I have the first 6 seasons on DVD. I thought the 6th season was a little weak, so I don't plan to buy the 7th. I did go through iTunes and purchase the episodes I wanted to see - 7 episodes. I don't watch the shows when they air, but purchase them when they come out.

I wouldn't mind giving season 8 a chance, but I don't plan on purchasing the box set. Steve Carell was AWESOME. Some of the STUPID things made you wonder if this guy would be found dead in the office spaces after a long weekend. I didn't like those moments.

So as Michael flew off to Colorado, I wondered if the guy would make it. I mean, give him credit, he came through on sales when he had to, but right up until one of his last episodes, he asked Pam to ignite the gasoline he put out, AND STOOD IN, which would have been his proposal message to Holly. WOW!
I hope to see him make an appearance or two in season 8.

I stopped watching and Steve was still on the show so you know my answer-lol I learned it's the writing that makes the show not the characters and the episode stories for last season was AWFUL
