Heart Dick Van Dyke Reveals He Had A Big Crush on Mary Tyler Moore

And then there’s Mary Tyler Moore. Van Dyke’s big revelation about the woman he’s most closely identified with, five decades after being her TV spouse? He had a crush on her. Then again, he adds, who didn’t?

Cool

When you see the amazing chemistry that Dick and Mary had on TDVDS it comes as no surprise that Dick had a crush on Mary!

Ha ha.
I think the "revelation" that the sun comes up in the east and sets in the west would have had more shock value to me than Dick admitting he had a crush on Mary!
And of course I agree with him...who didn't?

Not surprising!! DVD & MTM had chemistry up the wazoo and then some. It also reminds me of how Dick York had a crush on Liz Montgomery, though both were happily married to others while on Bewitched. Both gentlemen were able to easily transfer their attractions into their characters before the cameras, and it helped make their respective shows work.

I would be more concerned if DVD hadn't had a crush on MTM back in the day.

I read Dick van Dyke's new book and he says how he and MTM would giggle and laugh together. Someone pointed out that they had crushes on each other. It sure made their loving marriage onscreen very believable.

The book is great - upbeat, funny, and he handles the rough spots of his life (divorce, alcoholism, death of a grandchild) with grace and straightforwardness. I highly recommend it to anyone!!

Dick and Mary always looked great on the show, although when they did the very earliest eps they had Dick wearing that sort of odd makeup (lol).

I find Mary to be the most attractive in the final season -- that later hairstyle is darn sexy!

I love her hair during TDVDS, too. I have to wonder if, despite Carl Reiner not wanting the show to be topical or reference current events/fads, they consciously made Laura look as much like then-First Lady Jackie Kennedy as possible.

I think what was unrealistic was that Robert Petrie would sleep in a different bed would sleep in a different bed with a 25 year old Mary Tyler Moore. I am sure all the whiskey swilling Mad Men thought the same thing.

NBC! Yes you. Get Ed Helms and Ellie Kemper together as different characters and redo this show. DVD show is timeless and the two actors would do this show justice. Have the Ed Helms character a grandson or a late child of Rob (who writes for a successful TV show) and Laura who married a Laura who is working in the same industry in the 21st Century. Have DVD and MTM as recurring characters. Make Sally as a latter day Sally (Jennine Garaflo maybe or Lisa Lampinelli less dirty) and make the Morry Amsterdam character black. Of course have MTM and DVD as recurring characters.
