Oh No Cleveland Indians' Shin-Soo Choo arrested for DUI

http://www.fox8.com/news/wjw-news-ch...,1240899.story

By TOM WITHERS

SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio— CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has been charged with drunken driving.

The team said Choo was arrested early Monday in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. Choo traveled with the Indians and is with the team in Oakland, Calif., for the start of a six-game road trip against the Athletics and Los Angeles Angels.

In a statement, general manager Chris Antonetti said the team "takes these issues very seriously and we are disappointed in the matter."

Choo is arguably Cleveland's best all-around player. He batted .300 last season and was the only AL player to hit .300 with at least 20 homers and 20 steals. The 28-year-old entered Tuesday's game batting .250 with four homers and 15 RBIs.

Cool

With all the celebrity and famous athlete DUI's that are happening it makes me think that a return to prohibition would be a good thing!

As long as The Tribe is winning...this may NOT be an effect. (Maybe Choo is going back to the old-fashioned drugs that Babe Ruth did...booze and tobacco)!

What I don't get is how the cop DIDN'T smell alcohol on Choo's breath until the THIRD time he stopped him (which was when Choo began weaving). For Pete's sake, his blood alcohol level was .201!!!!

Dash Cam of Arrest Shows Choo's Sobriety Tests

By Kevin Freeman

Fox 8 News Reporter

4:32 p.m. EDT, May 4, 2011

SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio— Sheffield Lake police have released dash cam video of Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo's arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated.

"Put your hands behind your back, you're gonna be placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated," officer Jarod Green is heard telling Choo in the video.

Choo is handcuffed and charged with driving drunk in Sheffield Lake just before 3:00 a.m. Monday.

Police say his troubles began minutes earlier when an officer saw him parked in a residential area, trying to figure out how to get to nearby Avon Lake.

"The officer gave him directions the best he could and Mr. Choo travelled only a short distance, a street away, stopped again. The officer approached him a second time, gave him additional directions," explained Capt. Tony Campo.

"You're gonna go through a stop sign and you're gonna take a left," officer Green says in the video.

The video shows Choo's white Cadillac SUV pull away. The officer says he followed him to make sure he didn't get lost again.

"He observed him weaving, he crossed the center line and travelled over the white line on the right side of the road. The officer stopped him," said Capt. Campo

The officer gives Choo a field sobriety test. In the video, Choo appears unsteady and keeps his feet side-by-side. Then, when ordered to put his finger to his nose, he confused his right hand and his left.

Choo is arrested and placed in the back of the police cruiser. That's when he reveals who he is.

"I understand that you play," the officer told Choo.

"I know, and so I know you know who I am, but if I go back to Korea, I'll never come back here," Choo responded. "I'm done, my life is done."

"I regret that this happened. I don't want to be a distraction while we still play winning baseball. I don't want to make this happen-- make any trouble on the team," Choo told reporters from Oakland, California, where the Indians played Tuesday night.

The officer says Choo did not appear intoxicated when he spoke to him on the first two encounters.

Choo is scheduled for a court date Thursday evening, but Fox 8 has learned his lawyer will appear on his behalf.
