Joss Whedon Talks "Cabin in the Woods"
After Years on the Shelf, Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Gets New Life at Lionsgate
By John Mitchell Posted Apr 29th 2011 Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights to The Cabin in the Woods, a long-on-the-shelf horror film starring Thor's Chris Hemsworth, Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford, Deadline reports. The MGM film was directed by Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard, who co-wrote the screenplay with The Avengers director Joss Whedon. Cabin in the Woods was originally set for release by MGM in Oct. 2009, but the studio pushed the release back so it could convert the film to 3D. Amid financial turmoil, the studio filed for bankruptcy protection in late 2010, only to emerge from the filing less than two months later under new management. Cabin was one of many films that were put in limbo during the financial trouble. Lionsgate is expected to release the film this fall. The studio is no doubt hoping to capitalize on the international fame Woods star Hemsworth will likely reap after Thor opens in May. The Cabin in the Woods has received positive buzz from early screenings. While an official release date has not yet been announced, Deadline expects the film will finally see the light of day in October. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/04/29...woods-release/ |

Joss Whedon's Cabin Gets Release Date
By Harley W. Lond Posted Jul 21st 2011 Here's good news for Joss Whedon and horror fans: The Cabin in the Woods, co-written by Whedon and Drew Goddard finally has a release date - April 13, 2012. The film, now being handled by Lionsgate, has been sitting on the shelf since 2009 due to the financial problems at MGM, which was the original distributor. Cabin stars now-big-time Chris Hemsworth as a young professional who visits a quaint cabin in the woods with a group of friends only to discover something horrifying there. Whedon, according to The Hollywood Reporter, describes it as "the horror movie to end all horror movies." Cabin marks Goddard's directorial debut and co-stars Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Brian J. White, Amy Acker, Fran Kranz and Jesse Williams. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/21...-in-the-woods/ |

Exclusive: Joss Whedon Talks Cabin in the Woods
by Joseph McCabe July 28, 2011 I have to ask about Cabin in the Woods, is there anything that we're going to see that's going to be different in the film from the comic? I'm not entirely sure that the comic is going to happen. We're very strict, Drew Goddard and I, about what the film is and what it says. We kind of don't want to expand on that until people have had the time to digest it. So it's kind of its own thing and I'm not sure. Is there a chance that this film could develop a new mythology that books can develop from? Absolutely, it's heavy with mythology. http://www.fearnet.com/news/intervie...lks_buffy.html |
