Thirty years ago tomorrow Jim Davis passed away. I remember when I heard about it. It was on a Sunday night and I had the radio on. The news at the top of the hour began with the headline, "One of the stars of Dallas is dead." I was shocked. Looking at the show in reruns you can see how sick he was but back then it was not common knowledge. The news even reported originally that he died from complications from an ulcer. Jim was the heart and soul of Dallas IMO and even after his death, his spirit remained all over that show. After years as a B movie star he had finally made it to the top and it was a tragedy that he couldn't enjoy his new found fame longer. Here's to you Jim. Dallas fans will never forget you.

Yeah, I have to say that Dallas was never the same without Jim Davis. And by that, I mean, "not as good". He had such an imposing and larger than life personality; the scenes between Jock and his sons (as well as Miss Ellie) were just electric.

I always thought Ellie and Clayton were a good match but I wish Jim Davis would have lived a little longer. The storylines would have been interesting.
Also Victoria Principal and Jim Davis offscreen had a father/daughter relationship. Whe he was buried, he asked that her picture be put in his pocket. A few years before Dallas Davis had lost his daughter who was around Victoria's age, and she lost her own father around the same time. |

Jim Davis lost a daughter in an autombile accident and so he and Victoria P. were close; she resembled his daughter somewhat. He was buried with a picture of Principle & his daughter.

Anyone remember the Winn-Dixie commercials Jim did not long before his death? I was hoping to find one on youtube but no luck yet.

I found an old People article from the time of Jim's death.
