When The Office gets cancelled next year, I have an idea.
Get Ed Helms and Ellie Kemper on a show as a married couple. Basically this show will be somewhat of a ripoff of The Dick Van Dyke Show. Helms' character would be a writer of some type with his wife (unlike Mary Tyler Moore's Laura) having a life of her own with a career. He is a writer for a sitcom in New York City and living in thre suburbs. Kemper's laura character would have a profesioal career, with both interfering with each other's careers for comedy effect. Don't call them Rob and Laura. What about Robert and Lauren? The two have a loving relationship, although both parties screw uo (Helms' character is a cross between Robert Petrie and Andy Benard). Have a few zany people in Benard's office, but only zany like WKRP zany. Hire Creed Bratton as a recurring character who is the owner of the network. Hire most of the secondary characters from The Office in new roles. I have always thought if they did a Mary Tyler Moore movie, Ellie Kemper would be my first choice to play MTM. Helms has always came across as one of those smart/stupid characters. They look great together and they have chemistry. NBC, you owe me a milion dollars for this idea! |
