NOW FEATURING...TAKE A DARE
OK. So what do you think of Barclay?
Do you think Gilligan was getting befuddled with his story in the girls' hut just because they were both talking to him at once or because of other feelings for the girls that were distracting him? Why do you think Ginger asks Maryann if she wants to come along and help with the vamping this time? Doesn't she usually handle it alone--unless Maryann has some "practical role" as with the fishing pole or jet pack. I love the: "Let the captain finish his dreary story." It's so funny! What is the Skipper going to do to Gilligan out in the rain? Did you notice Tina Louise's picture (I think) when Barclay has set up his camp? That supports the Ginger as a really famous actress theory vs. the B-Movie theory. Don't you think? It's odd that Barclay thought Howell's money was fake--given his notoriety as a millionaire. Wouldn't that be like being offered money by Donald Trump today? Wow! The Skipper actually threatened to "beat him up"! Do you think this episode is MAG or MAP? |

What do I think of Barclay? What a selfish jerk! Oh, how I wanted to see him fail! His commuppance was perfect.
I think Gilligan got befuddled because both girls were talking to him at the same time, but I find it interesting that Gilligan seems to spend an inordinate amount of time hanging around the girls' hut in this episode. In this scene, where both girls are learning on his shoulders and hanging on his every word, he certainly seems to be enjoying himself. I'd say as far as 'shipping, this episode suggests a menage-a-trois! I assumed Barclay had stolen the picture of Ginger from Ginger herself, just as he stole the castaways' other articles. Ginger did tell Mary Ann she had a framed picture of herself. If this is the one Barclay stole, it doesn't support the idea of Ginger's being a famous actress. Barclay certainly doesn't seem to recognize her the way fellow actor Tongo does, and even Tongo isn't entirely sure who she is. Perhaps Barclay doesn't believe they're the Howells at all; perhaps he thinks they're mad. As far as the world knows, the Howells are dead. But Barclay certainly lost a golden opportunity here. I wish the Skipper had threatened to beat up a few other people. Haruki, Rodriguez, Kinkaid... I've always found the helicopter gag at the end very lame. But we did at least get to see six different vistas of their glorious island! I'd love to know where they were filmed. |
