In An Attempt to Lure Viewers Paul Reiser Insists New series like Mad About You

Paul Reiser has suggested that his new NBC sitcom often touches on the themes of his previous hit series Mad About You.

In an interview with Parade, the 54-year-old comedian disclosed that The Paul Reiser Show, like Mad About You, satirises many of the quirks of his own marriage to longtime wife Paula.

"Mad About You felt very autobiographical to me at the time, but it was fictionalised," he said. "I had a different name and I wasn't playing really myself, but I was sort of mining my life."

The comic continued: "Somebody said this show is really Mad About You 15 years later. In the beginning, they were newlyweds, and so there was a lot of neurotic things like, 'Is our relationship going to work?'

"Well, it's twenty years later and yeah, we're in. Nobody's looking at the door and thinking of getting out. It's a much more mature, grounded point in life and it's a great point in life. Life is always throwing something at you and that's the comedy."

Reiser starred opposite Academy Award-winner Helen Hunt for seven seasons on Mad About You, before bringing married couple Paul and Jamie Buchman's story to a close with a look into their future in the last episode, 'The Final Frontier', in 1999.
