Autism Awareness Month, 2011 - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

April is the month of Autism Awareness.

Now you may (or may not) know that I have a disability called Autism. It's not Aspergers, It's not Rett Syndrome, It's more than likely that I have PDD-NOS Autism which can vary.

Many people who are considered "Normal" don't get me and my disability...I can only speak about Autism very vaguely since I look and act very normal, but there's some things that take me longer to learn and it frustrates me.

I could use some help here to get more data and details for Autism.

Thank you for posting this Mr.Cleveland. A friend of mine has son with autism. He is 14.

I had no idea you had autism Paul. You do look and act normally. I guess that's not unusual for people with autism. I guess that's why autism is so misunderstood. I'm glad there is a month set aside to bring our attention to autism. Hopefully we will all have opportunities to learn more about autism this month and to understand it better.

Because I too, would like to know more about it too so I can tell the masses about it.

Ah, yes. My younger brother is a "classic" case autistic as his last neurologist described him. It is a very hard disease to understand and equally hard for a person to go through. I love my brother very much.

Thanks for posting this, MrCleveland. I know several people with Autism and Aspberger's.

As for a good resource to learn more, Wikipedia is probably a great place to start, as well as the organization Autism Speaks. Best of luck!
