Default Marking posts as read

I am sorry if this is not the proper place for this question or if it is a silly question, but is there a way to mark posts as read? I am aware of the MARK ALL POSTS READ option, but as you're scanning down the list of all the newest posts, is there a way to mark them read as you go, so when you refresh, you've eliminated all of those from the list. I haven't checked in in about a week and it seems like an impossible task to navigate through so many posts without being able to weed some out as I go. Any tips will be appreciated. Thank you!

The marking of threads and forums read has always been inactivity/cookie based, but it's something we can probably test out to see how it works.

There are 2 options:

2.Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.

This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking.

3.Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.

This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive.

I tested the new system and it was causing database errors with the user control panel. We'll have to wait until we upgrade to a newer version to use that database marking system.

You couldn't individually mark any threads as read. You would have to actually click on them.

You can individually mark all threads read from a single board by going to the "Forum Tools" option. The inactivity/time-out cookie is set to 60 minutes.
