Question Karen at home on the pilot

I was recently reading robmic's post about whether Jack was a spanking dad. I was reading the part of the car ride home from school after the scene in the principal's office after Kevin threw the apple into the cafeteria. Then I remembered how Kevin was "bailed out", so to speak, when Karen had announced that Brian Cooper had died in Vietnam.

According to my calculations Karen was in 11th grade at the time, or high school. I was thinking that the car ride home was just after lunch. (When I was in school, lunch was right after the midpoint of the day, during 5th period in junior high out of 8 periods.) How come Karen was home early? Did she play hooky, possibly to go to "the point" and fingerpaint? Or did high school let out earlier?

Your thoughts?

An impressively obsessive question.

I would say she was let out of school early because it was announced that he had been killed? Maybe??

Not to degrade Brian Cooper, but I thought he had already graduated since he was already in the military. Why let out school early in honor of someone who was no longer there? I mean it's not like the President had been shot.

Well if we are 'seriously' going to ponder this, I would just say that Karen cut class (rebel that she was) and went home when she found out OR the meeting was after school. Otherwise, wouldn't look too much into it other than to say it gave the scene a little dramatic punch.

I assumed the high school left out early.
