Smile Finally Got ME-TV Thanks to One Dollar Investment

I bought an amplified indoor antenna for $10 from Big Lots and have been able to receive Antenna TV & This TV with no problems. The only channel I couldn't get without severe pixilation or sometimes not at all was ME-TV which is in the Charlotte, NC market and about 70 miles away. Last night while going through some boxes of items I had purchased at a garage sale, I found an analog signal amplifier such as the one shown below. I decided to connect it to my digital antenna and the difference was literally night & day. My reception of ME-TV is now just as good as any other channel. You can probably find one at radio shack, craigslist or eBay.

Thanks for the tip on the amplifier. I'm considering one for use with my rooftop antenna, so I think I'll give it a go -- without one I can only receive from distant markets on very clear nights. Fortunately I can always get Me sharply.

Me-TV is great -- my only complaint is that they've begun to chop or speed up some of the closing credits (The Streets of San Francisco, Gunsmoke).

Exactly, The indoor amplified antenna that I purchased at Big Lots does a very good job for the price at receiving the stations in my market but the amplifier I added to it brought in several stations in another that I couldn't get before. When I use the antenna alone, I can get about 25 channels and with the extra amp I can get 35 +.

Charlotte, NC is about 65 miles from me and I can now get stations in that market with the extra amplifier. I'm not sure about the range when connected to a rooftop antenna, If you're that far away from the nearest ME-TV affiliate then you would probably not be able to get it.

I may have to end up getting an amplified antenna if the local cable decides not to add the ME-TV affiliate (I just have the local broadcast package as of now). I don't know if an extra amplifier would help me get the Antenna TV N.O. affiliate. I live about 200+ miles from N.O.

If it wasn't for a clear view then I wouldn't be able to get ME-TV or any other Charlotte channels. Raleigh is about the same distance and I can't get anything because of trees.

ME-TV is an over the air station, Mike. They are not obligated to be picked up by the satellite companies.

If I understand this article correctly, ME-TV and This TV are also available to anyone that has a c-band satellite system. I have one but haven't used it in several years.

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Turning ambitions into reality, SES WORLD SKIES, a division of SES S.A. today announced a capacity agreement to deliver Weigel’s new digital ME TV channel to broadcast stations and viewers across the U.S.

“We look forward to enabling Weigel’s vision and playing a key role in the success of ME TV and THIS TV for years to come.”
.As part of the 12MHz C-band deal on SES WORLD SKIES’ AMC-3 satellite, Weigel is using 8MHz to distribute timeless TV classics from the 60s, 70s and 80s to a growing number of affiliates that cover more than 45% of the US TV households. ME TV (Memorable Entertainment Television) favorites include Gilligan’s Island, Cannon, Bonanza, M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore, Cheers, Gunsmoke, I Love Lucy, The Twilight Zone and dozens more coveted titles.

The launch of ME TV follows Weigel’s successful 24-hour movie channel partnership with MGM named THIS TV, currently carried by more than 140 broadcast stations nationwide. The digital subchannel THIS TV is also delivered over AMC-3 using a 4MHz slice of C-band capacity.

“ME TV has been a huge hit with our local Chicago viewers since 2005, and it represents a win-win for audiences and affiliates across the country as we launch nationwide,” said Kyle Walker, Director of Engineering and Operations for Weigel Broadcasting. “We’ve opened the vault to share a refreshing mix of TV classics that haven’t been seen in years, and we’re delivering them over the most reliable and flexible satellite distribution platform in the business,” noted Walker.

“We had to make affiliate access to ME TV simple to give our new classics channel the best shot at success,” Walker added. “SES WORLD SKIES enabled us to meet our key requirements by ensuring that ME TV and THIS TV shared the same polarity on AMC-3, making the new channel an easy add-on for broadcasters.”

“Weigel Broadcasting’s innovative use of digital bandwidth offers broadcast stations new revenue-generating sub channels and provides viewers with great alternative channel choices,” said Steve Bunke, Vice President of North America Sales for SES WORLD SKIES. “We look forward to enabling Weigel’s vision and playing a key role in the success of ME TV and THIS TV for years to come.”

How did you hook the amplifier up to the antenna? I bought an amp just like the one you showed in the picture I hooked a cable from my apex amplified antenna to the input of distamp amplifier, hooked anpther coax cable from rf input on ota digital box,to output of amp, hooked a cable to rf out on ota digitalbox to the a port on ab switch, hooked my cable tv in to b port and hooked ab switch to tv but that did not work. Switched cables around no luck. Also there is a switch on there that says out and fm trap which way is the switch supposed to be? thanks

I connected the coaxial cable from the antenna to the input of the external amp and then another coaxial cable to the tv.

I'm not home at the moment and my memory isn't that great but iirc, it was set to FM trap. I do know that one of the settings definitely would not bring in any channels when I did a scan and I had to switch it to the other
