Movie Reviews: Source Code
The sci-fi thriller Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan, is garnering some enthusiastic reviews. Manohla Dargis in the New York Times begins her review by remarking: “It doesn’t take long for Source Code, a science-fiction thriller with a contemporary twist, to hook you.” It’s the story of a man who is forced to relive eight minutes on a train that is blown up over and over until he finds the bomber. Many critics are comparing it with the classic Groundhog Day. Kenneth Turan in the Los Angeles Times praises its, “twisty mind-bending plot.” As for seeing those eight minutes repeated a half dozen times in the film, Turan notes: “Far from making Source Code dull, those repetitions add to the tension as we wonder what Stevens will do next and how that choice will play out.” Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel thinks that the plotting is “ingenious” and concludes: “Here’s a movie where you forgive the preposterous because it takes you to the perplexing.” Stephen Cole in the Toronto Globe and Mail calls it “a deceptively complex pleasure craft weighted down with so many plots it’s a wonder the whole thing moves with such grace and efficiency.” And Ty Burr in the Boston Globe sums up tersely: “The thing keeps you watching.” -IMDB News |
