Joel Schumacher was brought on to direct Batman Forever and Batman & Robin after Burton's Batman and Batman Returns.
Warner Bros. wanted to make the Batman films more mainstream and "lighter" and at the time they rejected Burton's darker approach to the franchise. Michael Keaton did not reprise for Batman Forever because he did not like the new tone of Joel Schumacher's film. Also, Val Kilmer decided not to come back for Batman & Robin because he decided to do the film The Saint instead. George Clooney was then brought on as the new Batman. |

I'd vote for the 1966 version as the best Batman ever.

I never bought Keaton as either Bruce Wayne or Batman. For my money, Bale beats him by a mile. I even liked Kilmer better than Keaton.
And to Mickey, yeah, West is really in a league of his own and if you are looking for that tone, I can't see anyone else in the role. |

I honestly think that given the right circumstances, Kilmer could have continued as Batman and made a success of it. I didn't hate Clooney, but you're right; that film was just so cluttered with characters and origins that Batman almost seemed like a guest star in his own movie. |

When Kilmer decided not to do Batman again, that was pretty much the beginning of the end for his career. He never had another big hit, except for Heat released that year, again. The Saint did not do that well. Batman & Robin was just bad. The only thing I liked was Uma Thurman (to look at) as Poison Ivy. |

I agree with this thread title.
Michael Keaton is THE Batman. Others come in and do the job fine, but at the end of the day, it's Keaton's Batman that I consider the main movie Batman. Adam West was great at the version he did but I don't think he compares to the others because the tone of that movie was way different than the tone of the 90s and 00s versions. Well maybe not way different than Batman & Robin, lol. Ooh, as for Bale, I can't stand his Batman voice. He's a fine actor and all, but not my favorite Batman. |

I think Michael Keaton was the best Batman and Jack Nicholson was awesome as the Joker. I saw the last Batman with Christian Bale and it was ok. I laugh at the people who think Heath Ledger was better as the Joker than Jack Nicholson hahahahahahahahaha. I'm surprised Heath won a oscar for his performance. Was Jack nominated for a oscar for playing the Joker?
