Beaver's Good Deed

Watching this episode a question came to mind. I was thinking does anyone here think that had June been home alone, would she have let Mr. Jeff in the house to let him eat? I don't think she would have, I do think however, she would have given him some food, but only to go. That's the way I would have handled it too. I know women allowed strangers in their home for various reasons back then including sales people or home repair guys, but times were definately safer to do so. I do know this, when my husband arranged to have DirecTV come to reinstall our dish, I told him that he better be home because I wasn't going to be alone when he arrived. That being said, I still shake my head when I see episodes like Beaver's Accordian when June let that man in to wait for Ward or during Wally's Practical Joke when Wally and Lumpy was allowed inside a home to make a phone call and was allowed to let themselves out. I know it's just a show and all and nothing was going to happen, but that kind of stuff seems to make me think I guess, that people were too trusting.

i dont think june would have let him in ether but im sure she would have made him a sandwich and given him a thermos of something to drink and sent him on his way

My Mom would never let anyone in that was doing work unless my Dad was home. Even though LITB was in the 50's and 60's, there were still psychos around then. I bet June scrubbed that tub good with bleach after that bum had his nasty butt crack sitting in it and his filthy athletes feet walking on her clean floor.

It's good to see someone responding to my OLD post! Thank you! I would think June would have had Ward rip everything apart and redo the bathroom and the bedroom! LOL! That guy was filthier then filthy!

LOL! Yeah, I highly doubt it. And I just had to wonder how June was so calm in seeing that someone was in their bathroom and bedroom and the shape it was in.

Times were different back then. Back in those days, people didnt even lock their doors.

Yes I know, my mom used to tell me how they never locked their doors growing up. Knowing that and how times were better you still had weirdos out there back then. I just can't believe someone felt the need to take complete advantage of a kid who gave him something to eat and drink. That was one thing, but to be disgusting enough to do what he did was just....EWWW!!! They must not have had shelters back then either. I would suppose homelessness wasn't really an issue back then...IDK.

A lot of homeless people back then were considered happy hobos and lived near train tracks. They also had soup kitchens were they would go eat. I wonder why Mr. Jeff didn't go there for a meal ? He had every intention to come in and get what ever he could.

Yes I know, especially not knowing what happened and who was in there! That's just it though, IMO they sometimes wrote June to be a little too understanding. Look at Mrs. Mondello, she was too over dramatic and June had little emotion.....no balance at all. Now I know June was brought up "primp and proper" so that should have caused her to at least scream bloody murder instead of nonchalanty calling for Ward to please come up there as though she just had a stuck zipper.

I agree. They had June over react to minor things and be totally calm about major things. Like the way she carried on if the boys didn't want to go to a dance or if she thought Wally was getting too serious about girls.
