Confused What was Opie's REAL first name?

Questions:1)Was it ever mentioned on the series,or in the 1986 NBC TV-movie "Return to Mayberry"? and 2)In interviews they did ,did either Andy Griffith or Ron Howard ever mention what the character Opie's real first name was?

What episode(s) mentioned that "Opie" was not his real name?

Default You won't believe this (and I don't expect you to)...

...but Opie was his "real" name. In real life, there were a number of people in the south (around North Carolina and Arkansas) named "Opie". One of them was a composer/conductor named Opie Cates, who worked on a lot of radio shows in the '30s and '40s [including the half-hour weekly version of "LUM 'N' ABNER"]...and the character of "Opie Taylor" was named after him.

Like the above poster said, Opie was his real name. It is a rare name, used primarily in the South. White Southerners sometimes have pecular names, very old Scottish/English/Welsh varieties handed down for generations.

According to Wikipedia article 'Opie Taylor'..

There are two explanations of the name's origin. One is that Opie Taylor was named by Andy Griffith after bandleader and radio actor Opie Cates. The other is that he was named for Opie Shelton (1915–1999), a childhood friend of Griffith, who went on to become president of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

My mother has a very unusual name. I never met anyone in the World with that name, although my mother said she once did. Once, and she is almost 80.

There is actually a character named Opie on another TV series on now. Which series is that?

Default Have Question

Hello Andy's Fan I have a Question! Have you been watching "The Andy Griffith Show" on TVLand! Do you been recording ever it been on TVland in 2001? Would you view your tapes and make Record for me M/D/Y and Post them for me. if you have any marathrons too.

I am big Lucille Ball fan I've got all her movies too. I don't have "Long, Long, Trailer" anymore too me it's stupid movie. I have "Yours, Mind and Ours" the orignal.

I've collected "I Love Lucy" series. I've collected Lucy on DVD's.
Now I am collecting Lucy's other series I just collected "The Lucy Show" season 4 and "Here's Lucy" season 4 too. I can't wait to finish my collection.

Note: TVLand takes off "I Love Lucy".

And I've more recored of "I Love Lucy" pass records from KTTV Ch 11 from late 80's too now. And N@N too and Marathrons.

All of you Andy's Fans who have collected "The Andy Griffith Show" series all of 8th season.

Note) In 1986 when Desi Arnaz pass I wrote Lucy a Letter. And Lucy wrote me back no kidding.

Thanks
