Nirvana's 'Hormoaning' EP Getting Rereleased on Record Store Day

Nirvana's limited-edition EP 'Hormoaning' was insanely sought after in its heyday back when 'Nevermind' was merely just a cause celebré.

One can only imagine just how much its worth and ownership of it has risen in stature since Kurt Cobain's death and quick ascension to the Lennon/Hendrix echelons of rock 'n' roll fame and mystique.

Yet on April 16, otherwise known to rock geeks as Record Store Day, 'Hormoaning' will be rereleased for the first time since its initial limited, offshore run -- and domestic release for the first time ever -- for just 6,000 lucky new owners.

The six-song Australia- and Japan-only 1992 release features a John Peel session with two new Nirvana songs and four covers (two of the Vaselines, one of Devo and one of the Wipers).

It was previously considered an all-time rarity, and its influence was so great that Sub Pop released a Vaselines anthology due to the sudden interest in the band's songs.

Four of the EP's six tracks eventually showed up on Nirvana's 1992 B-sides and rarities compilation 'Incesticide', which reached No. 39 on the Billboard album chart despite little promotion from Geffen, and has since been certified Platinum in its own right, thanks to the inclusion of both the widely bootlegged 'Hormoaning' cuts as well as fan favorites like 'Sliver' and 'Been a Son.'

'Hormoaning's' initial run was limited to just 15,000 official copies in Australia, while the Japanese record company wide-released it without the go-ahead from the American label, leading to a quick deletion.
