Default Demond Wilson was supposed to star in the spinoff "Sanford Arms" but...

He was requesting $25,000 an episode once the show premiered in the fall of 1977 and the producers decided to pass on him and hire Teddy Wilson for the part instead.

BTW: Teddy Wilson was "Sweet Daddy" on Good Times

Cool

Wow! It's amazing they thought $25,000 was asking too much money considering some actors today get over $1,000,000 per episode!!

I guest they felt it wasn't a MAJOR reason why Sanford and Son was a hit. That was obvious when Redd Foxx left temporarily nd instead of expanding Demond's role, they expanded Whitman Mayo's Role

Yeah they obviously didn't value Desmond Wilson's contribution to the show. I think the chemistry between Desmond Wilson and Redd Foxx is what made Sanford and Son so funny so they should have valued Desmond Wilson more.

At the tme of the article, it looked like Aunt Esther wasn't considered yet as a cast member for the show plus the title had not been confirmed. In the artcle it said-"It will probably be called "Sanford Arms" ccording to NBC offcials

lol

He should have got paid what he was asking for. He deserved it. Saying that though, I don't think it would have made a difference. Ratings were starting to fall during the last season of S & S and they were going to fall on this show regardless. I think the show might have survived until the end of the season with Wilson but the show was probably dead anyway.
