Confused For Fans Of 'Dynasty,' Did The Show Really Jump The Shark After Season 5 "Massacre?"

Dynasty

The Moldavian Massacre, Season 5

For a series that specialized in season-ending cliff-hangers (remember Crystle and Alexis in the burning cabin, or Blake left for dead atop a mountain?), Dynasty's season 5 capper was an over-the-top extravaganza. Amanda Carrington's wedding to Prince Michael of Moldavia rivaled the nuptials of Princesses Diana and Grace — until rebel forces opened fire in the final moments of the fairy-tale ceremony. All summer long, it was ''Who will live? Who will die?'' as fans speculated on the outcome. Alas, Dynasty returned in the fall and the only ones dead were some minor characters we can't even remember. Just like that, the show jumped the shark. But for one glorious summer, Moldavia rocked! —Ari Karpel

I think it did. I mean, a bunch of terrorists open fire on a church with machine guns and only two minor characters die?? Come on!

Dynasty did go downhill after that: Storylines involving Krystle being kidnapped and replaced with a lookalike, Fallon being played by Emma Samms and just a general campiness seemed to take over.

I liked the "Moldavia Massacre", Fun cliff hanger! Not sure if I remember who died though. Ali MacGraw?? William Campbell?? The Groom, Michael Praed??

William Campbell and Ali McGraw's characters were killed off. Everyone else emerged with their hairstyles and lives intact.

I guess this storyline is to Dynasty what the "Pam's dream" plot was to Dallas.

What happened to Prince whatever-his-name was. Did Amanda actually get to marry him? I don't remember him after the massacre.

They were married, but it didn't last long. He was a goofball. And then Amanda was played by an American actress with no accent!

Oh, yeah Fake Amanda! She was a waitress in a Hard Rock Cafe, when someone from Dynasty discovered her, and thought she looked like Catherine Oxenberg! She never even acted before! Yes this was a jump-the-shark moment!!

And she didn't last long. A few episodes at the beginning of season seven.

Karen Cellini looked like a valley girl. Catherine Oxenburg at least looked British.

Dynasty never did very well with replacement actors, IMO.

I was shocked to learn that Catherine Oxenberg is really American (born in NYC), but she was raised in London - and is Yugoslavian royalty.

I think Jack Coleman did okay as Steven. The rest were awful. I couldn't stand Emma Samms as Fallon.

I read someplace that Karen Cellini had actually auditioned for a role on The Colbys, but the producers decided to put her on Dynasty instead as the new Amanda. Hollywood logic!!
