New "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" Poster Released
The Hobbit Begins Production -- See First Two Official Photos
By Monika Bartyzel Posted Mar 21st 2011 It's time to head back to The Shire! After the blockbuster success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, one would imagine that The Hobbit would be smooth sailing. Instead, we've gotten five years of anticipation, stretching the full life of Cinematical. It started with rights issues in 2005. Since then, Peter Jackson went to war with New Line for its Rings accounting: - Sam Raimi and Guillermo del Toro circled the project before del Toro signed on - the book was split in two - money woes made pre-production difficult - delays abounded - del Toro left - a bunch of new names vied for the opportunity before the whirlwind came full circle and Jackson jumped in the director's chair If this back-and-forth has left you wary about the film ever coming to be, this should help amp up the excitement: Peter Jackson has shared two glimpses of himself hangin' in the Shire. There's nothing exactly new to see. We already got a taste of the Hobbit world in Rings and some far-off shots of the set last summer. What's great about these images is the feel. Jackson is, undoubtedly, the father of the modern Hobbits, and seeing him standing in that round doorway is like the comfort of seeing Dad come home after a long and tumultuous time away. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/03/21...-movie-photos/ |

Another year and a half? Seriously?
I'm not even a fan and I think that's ridiculous. |

First Three Images from The Hobbit
By Aiden Redmond Posted Jun 23rd 2011 The latest of updates comes in the form of three images that director Peter Jackson recently shared with Entertainment Weekly. ![]() "There's no way you can pace yourself for shoots like these," said Jackson. "When we were going through the schedule for 'The Hobbit,' I felt a terrible drop in my stomach when I saw that we'd be shooting for 254 days. We're only 12 days short of 'The Lord of the Rings' even though we're only doing two movies. When I saw that, I had to sort of pick myself up off the floor and carry on." ![]() "He's in fantastic form," Jackson said McKellen reprising his role as Gandalf. "In a way, his role in 'The Hobbit' has more technical difficulties than 'The Lord of the Rings' did, because he has scenes with 14 smaller characters -- obviously the dwarves and the hobbits are shorter ... I remember saying to him [laughs], 'Look, this isn't 'Waiting for Godot' or 'King Lear.' This is 'The Hobbit.' This is the real thing.'" ![]() "He fits the ears, and he's got some very nice feet," Jackson said of lead hobbit Bilbo Baggins. "I think he's got the biggest hobbit feet we've had so far. They're a little bit hard to walk in, but he's managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait." http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/06/23...-first-images/ |

First Look: More Hobbit Dwarves
By Harley W. Lond Posted Jul 8th 2011 Distant cousins of Thorin Oakenshield, these two doughty Northern Dwarves join the Company out of a sense of loyalty to their kin, and also because they have a substantial sum of money invested in the venture. Along with Bombur, Gloin is the only other married Dwarf in the Company (there being a shortage of female dwarves in general). His wife is an acclaimed beauty with a particularly fine beard. Gloin is the proud father of a young son, Gimli, who will go on to become part of the famous Fellowship of the Ring. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/08...s-more-photos/ |

First Look at The Hobbit Dwarves
By Sharon Knolle Posted Jul 8th 2011 These three brothers, all sons of the same mother, could not be more different from each other. Dori, the oldest, spends much of his time watching out for Ori, the youngest; making sure he's not caught a chill or got himself killed by Wargs or Goblins. Nobody quite knows what Nori gets up to most of the time, except that it's guaranteed to be dodgy and quite probably, illegal. Dori, Nori and Ori are intensely loyal to each other – and whilst they are perfectly happy fighting amongst themselves, woe-betide anyone who means harm to one of these brothers. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/07...hotos-dwarves/ |

Second HOBBIT Production Video
Posted by Allan Dart July 11, 2011 In this 10-minute clip, Gollum actor (and now second-unit director) Andy Serkis and director Peter Jackson chat about the first block of shooting on THE HOBBIT, the cast & crew talk about what they’re going to do during the hiatus and Jackson takes us on a guided tour of New Zealand while location scouting. The video was posted on Peter Jackson’s Facebook page. With the first of a scheduled three blocks of filming now wrapped, THE HOBBIT has completed 54 days of production, with 200 to go! The two-part THE HOBBIT is being shot consecutively in digital 3D at Stone Street Studios, Wellington, and on location around New Zealand. http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?op...ews&Itemid=167 |

Another New Image of the Dwarves From The Hobbit
By Aiden Redmond Posted Jul 14th 2011 From left to right, we've got Stephen Hunter as Bombur, James Nesbitt as Bofur, and William Kircher as Bifur. Not sure how well Bombur fares in the heat of battle with nothing but a big ol' soup ladle to defend himself, but then again, that is one hell of a mustache/sideburns combo he's got goin' on. Totally makes up for it. Courtesy of IGN. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/14...dwarves-image/ |

First Look at Hobbit Dwarf Thorin
By Sharon Knolle Posted Jul 17th 2011 Meet Peter Jackson's latest dwarf, Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the dwarf band that meets up with Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming Hobbit films. He's played by Richard Armitage, who's channeling his fiercest Highlander-meets-Klingon look in a just-released photo posted to TheOneRing.net. When he was cast, Jackson said of Armitage: "He is one of the most exciting and dynamic actors working on screen today and we know he is going to make an amazing Thorin Oakenshield. We feel very lucky that one of the most beloved characters in Middle-earth is in such good hands." http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/17...hard-armitage/ |

No Hobbit at Comic-Com, But Here's Another Behind-the-Scenes Vlog to Tide You Over
By Harley W. Lond Posted Jul 21st 2011 Peter Jackson has a message for fans, reporters and Comic-Con conventioneers: The Hobbit won't be in San Diego when the convention opens Thursday. Here's Jackson's message to the millions, posted on his Facebook page Wednesday: Good news and bad news today. Bad news is that we won't be doing any 'Hobbit' presentation at Comic Con in San Diego this year. New Line and Warner Bros were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There's so much more of the films still to shoot. I just wanted to get that out there, because I've seen various references to the possibility of something Hobbity at Comic Con. Hate to disappoint anyone. But something tells me we will be there in force next year. Now for the good news ... We've just finished a new video blog, covering a little more of the first block of shooting. So please enjoy this-at least you don't have to travel to San Deigo to see it! I've been on the go since wrapping the first shooting block, but I'm about to settle down and get into the much delayed 20 Questions. I've a few half-written and will get those done very, very soon! I promise! Cheers, Peter J http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/21...-at-comic-com/ |

This May or May Not Be the First Poster for The Hobbit
By Aiden Redmond Posted Jul 21st 2011 After a great new video blog from Peter Jackson and the buzzkill announcement that he won't be making it to Comic-Con this year, it looks like we might have one more thing to be excited about for The Hobbit. Not that we had any idea, but apparently the movie is being filmed with a line of HD cameras by RED Digital Cinema. On any other day, that wouldn't exactly be news, but since they like to put up posters of popular movies that were shot with their cameras, that leads us to today's update with what could very well be the first teaser poster for The Hobbit. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/07/21...teaser-poster/ |
