There were several complaints about the Jeffersons characters not being realistic and her response was
"It's about time people see us on the other side of down and out in the ghetto. We have a good number of affluent Blacks. This is real life." Was this a shot at the show.....Good Times?-lol Sept 30, 1976 Jet Magazine |

But to be honest aside from Florence and Tom Willis, all the characters seemed real to me. |

I don't think that Ms. Sanford was necessarily taking a shot at Good Times. It was more defending the show and there is some validity to what she said. |

He is disagreeing with Florence being the only realiastic character on the show. I remember reading that in a 1982 TV guide |

When we insist that sitcoms be "realistic" then we misunderstand the purpose of a sitcom. After all, was anything farther from "real" than Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, The Munsters or The Beverly Hillbillies? Who cared? They made us laugh.....

I agree, but I think that's why the show is not popular with black people because a lot of black people doesn't think the show is realistic and can't relate to it. I couldn't relate to it either but i still enjoyed watching it. |

During that time, most black people could only relate to florence on the show because you didn't see tv shows with black people living in a high rise condo |
