The Zombi series is a little confusing to explain so I'll try my best here...

In different parts of the world the series had different titles (Italy, USA, UK, Germany) and they all don't match up.

The "official" series is Italian made by Lucio Fulti.

When George Romero's Dawn of the Dead came out it was renamed Zombi for release in Italy. These Italian movies are regarded as unofficial sequels to Dawn of the Dead.

Zombi in 1978 is a renamed Dawn of the Dead.
Zombi 2 came out in 1979.
Zombi 3 came out in 1988.

When the films came out for American release it got a little screwed up.

Zombi 2 was named Zombie for US release.
Then the US skipped the #2 title and went right for Zombie 3.
Then there were more unofficial sequels made to this series and it went on to Zombie 4 and Zombie 5.

There is no "Zombie 2" under US release. #2 is #1 as far as the US goes.

James explained it well, so I'll just add if you want some more good cheesy zombie flicks:

Burial Ground
Zombi 3( I can't recommend the sequels after that)
Hell Of The Living Dead
City Of The Walking Dead(aka Nightmare City)
Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
Cemetery Of Terror(aka Cementerio del terror)
Redneck Zombies
The Dead Next Door
Zombie Holocaust (aka Dr Butcher MD)
I Eat Your Skin
The Children (1980, aka The Children Of Ravensback)
Mutant(1984, aka Night Shadows)

Not zombies, but infected-

Cannibal Apocalypse
I Drink Your Blood

Also wanted to add-

The Boneyard, which has zombie children, Phyllis Diller ,and a poodle-monster.

The Video Dead(Sadly not on DVD yet, but it is available on Netflix Instant.)

Ohhh, and of course The Child '77, super wooden acting, but has a great atmosphere about it, a little girl sics her zombie friends on those she thinks killed her mother.

Here's some more confusing titles-

Tombs Of The Blind Dead(one of its many many aka's) which is the first film in the Blind Dead film series was also released as: Mark Of The Devil 4: Tombs Of The Blind Dead.

Return Of The Blind Dead, the second film in the Blind Dead film series was also released as Mark of the Devil 5: Return of the Blind Dead.

That's a great DVD.

As far as I know the remake of CSPWDT has been canceled(At least right now it's in limbo) Bob Clark was directly involved with it when he died. So I wouldn't hold my breath on it getting made.

Another excellent early outing of Bob Clark's is Death Dream(aka Dead Of Night).
