The article reminds me of the last verse of the 1972 Don McLean song"Vincent"(aka "Starry,Starry Night")-"They did not listen, they're not listening still, perhaps they never will.... "

you know, I read somewhere that TV LAND DOES read all the complaints about them, and they DO listen. I know now though that that's just a big, fat, lie!!!
And now they're gonna start showing "C.S.I." on the weekends!! What's next "CRIMINAL MINDS"? How about "N.C.I.S."???

And another thing:When they say:"Our schedule is 60 to 70% classic TV",it's the classics THEY want to see.Not what WE want to see.And why C.S.I?Whose bright idea was that?

“Our schedule is still 60 to 70 percent classic TV,” Cohen says. “We’re in the business of participating in the current conversation, as well.”

That is such a crock. Their schedule is hardly 60 to 70 percent classic tv. They are dying a slow death and they know it.

Why just not try a TVLAND 2 already?? Then they can program the main TVLAND the way they feel will bring in the ratings (reality crap and current shows) and run all classics on the second channel (and I don't mean Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke and The Nanny in 6 hour blocks) and compare both channels and see who does better. Either these cable networks just don't know how to program a channel or what the viewers want, OR the majority of people are idiots and actually tune in to the same 10 or 15 shows of today (CSI, NCIS, etc). Hasn't Spike TV or whatever network airs CSI air it basically all day during the week?

TVLand doesn't give a crap about what people want; all they care about is the locked in ratings generated from retirement homes stuck on their channel.

Default Disingenuous

They are a little disingenuous when they say 60 to 70 percent of programming is classic. While that may be true, they air the same shows and the same episodes over and over. If they would take that same 60 to 70 and have more shows and air the episodes in order, not repeated viewers might be more satisfied. They are trying to do it on the cheap though so they just air the same thing over and over. That's really the problem.

I really don't mind TV Land as it is right now. Other channels are picking up the slack, so if they're finding more success with sort of a half-and-half set-up (newer/original stuff at night, older stuff during the day), that's fine. I just wish they'd change up the older stuff more often. I like the shows they have now, but it's been the same rotation of shows for years now it seems. Whenever there's a big surprise coming up, it's usually something that they stopped airing within the last five years and is already on another channel (Beverly Hillbillies, Good Times, Bewitched, etc). I'm sure the next "big surprise classic sitcom" will be The Munsters or Green Acres.

I think it'd be cool if they owned up to the fact that there is sort of a "great divide" in their programming during the week at 8:00pm (central) and used it to their advantage. They can do 90s/00s stuff from 8pm to 8am and 60s/70s/80s stuff from 8am to 8pm. Something like this (with just random show suggestions, don't really know what they have the rights to at this point):

8:00am: The Beverly Hillbillies
8:30am: The Beverly Hillbillies
9:00am: The Brady Bunch
9:30am: The Brady Bunch
10:00am: My Three Sons
10:30am: My Three Sons
11:00am: Gunsmoke
12:00pm: Bonanza
1:00pm: Bonanza
2:00pm: Eight is Enough
3:00pm: Bewitched
3:30pm: Bewitched
4:00pm: The Andy Griffith Show (with Mayberry RFD)
4:30pm: The Andy Griffith Show (with Mayberry RFD)
5:00pm: Mary Tyler Moore
5:30pm: Mary Tyler Moore
6:00pm: Sanford & Son
6:30pm: Sanford & Son
7:00pm: All in the Family
7:30pm: All in the Family
-----------------------
8:00pm: Everybody Loves Raymond
8:30pm: Everybody Loves Raymond
9:00pm: Roseanne
9:30pm: Roseanne
10:00pm: JAG
11:00pm: The Nanny
11:30pm: The Nanny
12:00am: 3rd Rock from the Sun
12:30am: 3rd Rock from the Sun
1:00am: Married with Children
1:30am: Married with Children
2:00am: Everybody Loves Raymond
2:30am: Everybody Loves Raymond
3:00am: Roseanne
3:30am: Roseanne
4:00am: Boston Legal
5:00am: The Nanny
5:30am: The Nanny
6:00am: 3rd Rock from the Sun
6:30am: 3rd Rock from the Sun
7:00am: Married with Children
7:30am: Married with Children

My feeling is that they are gradually phasing the classic shows out.

I could really care less. Give these networks like Antenna TV and MeTV a couple of years and hopefully most everyone will have them through antenna or cable. Look how THIS (who shows some classic series) spread and is in most markets now. You don't even have to pay for them. DTV is the future of classic TV, IMO. These are better than TV Land ever was.
