Mike Brady didn't appear in this episode. As usual Bob Reed complained that this script wasn't realistic and Sherwood Schwartz who was fed up with Bob Reed's complaints decided to write Bob out of the episode rather than address yet another of his complaints. So as a result the family patriarch did not appear in the final episode.

Greg: 'Graduation's tomorrow and I've got...orange hair!!!'
And because of Robert Reed's complaining, Mike Brady missed his oldest son's high school graduation. |

I don't know why Sherwood wouldn't listen to Bob seems his complaints had merit, the first two seasons were great.

I always thought Greg (Barry) looked like Kurt Cobain in that picture!

This final episode did have a LOL moment for me. When Peter sees Greg's orange hair, Peter starts laughing, and Greg lets out a really funny squeal in protest.
The tag for this show had two really ridiculous sitautions, IMO. First of all, Mike Brady, who moved around a dinner to see Cindy on tv and a vacation to see Jan give her Miss Popularity speech, was out of town for Greg's graduation, according to Carol. Brady fans all know why, of course. Then finally there's discussion about who will get Greg's attic bedroom, Marcia or Peter. I thought they settled that question in the previous season finale. This conversation gives Oliver the final line of the final episode, when he offers to take the room himself: "It was only a suggestion!" |

1. The final episode sucked, like most de facto series finales, and if I was the TV president, I'd have it renewed for a sixth, and true final season.
2. The Brady Bunch was one of a long list of ABC TV shows to be released from their contracts following the 1973-74 season. The other shows that were RFC'ed include: The F.B.I. Temperatures Rising Bob and Carol & Ted and Alice Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law Toma Room 222 (midseason) Adam's Rib (midseason) Love American Style (midseason) Griff (midseason) The Partridge Family That's what ABC gets for being the "C-network". (That season, CBS was the "A-network, and NBC was the "B-network".) |

This episode was just another example of creators of a show not knowing when to call it quits. And as far as Robert Reed's complaining is concerned, he had always acted that way with Mr. Schwartz so what was the point of writing him out of the last show? It made no sense and it certainly wasn't going to impact his indifferent behavior. It's kind of like dealing with a problem child....you have to stop the bad behavior in begining.
